That to town is the beacon of freedom in iloilo City/Panay cry for independence from Spain, USA and Japan. My late Mom's town. There used to have a Leprosarium there.

Wonderful...showcasing the municipal plazas! I love taking time to see the unique features of Plazas as I tour the Panay region... I traveled through Negros, Cebu, Iloilo....I use plazas as my rest stop as I travel to my destinations in the Philippines. Safe Travels & I look forward to exploring the Philippines through your lens!

@13:45 I erroneously stated Janiuay means January in the local dialect. This was incorrect. The name derives from two words combined, Jan and Iuay, legend has it two sons from a local Datu.

Take note ILOILO CITY GOVERNMENT - the blogger zeroed in on the garbage and plastic bottles along the Iloilo River, to his immense consternation. Personally, I have also discovered more of those garbage, cats, dogs and fecal matter along the entire stretch of the Esplanade during my tour. The former Mayor of Iloilo, Jed Patrick Mabilog used to conduct regular clean-up drives to pick up all that trash along the Iloilo River in order to promote Iloilo City as a green and clean city. Mayor Mabilog's recent visit to Iloilo City could be an auspicious occasion for him to check how his original brainchild has become, after all these years. But despite all that, the blogger has successfully showcased the splendor of the Esplanade. Let us keep it immaculate at all times. Pride of place is important for us Ilonggos.

Iloilo has always been one of our favorite places to visit and is considered one of Asia's cleanest cities. Seeing some trash along the esplanade was unexpected, although it's understandable given the recent rain, which might have washed up the trash in the river. My wife, being an Ilongga, takes great pride in Iloilo.

There's another cluster of banyan/balete trees inside the compound of the Ker and Company building (1900s) at the back lit. These cluster of trees have been cleaned and under the trees some benches have been installed fir visitors to experience sitting under these massive trees.

On the far right side of the video (18:48 and 19:57) is the monument and statue honoring Sir Nicholas Loney, the acknowledged Father of the Sugar Industry in Iloilo and the Philippines. Sir Nicholas Loney was a British resident of Iloilo who engaged in the sugar industry in ILOILO by providing loans to local producers, providing for their machinery imported from Europe. Because there was a sizable 42 documented British families living in Iloilo, he was appointed Vice Consul. He also invited his nephew, Mr.Hopkyn, to migrate to Iloilo and engage in business, whereupon he opened the Hoskyn's Department Store, the first fixed-price store in the Philippines and acknowledged as the first department store in the Philippines. The building housing tge department store at the Calle Real (JM Basa Street) is still existing. Also in his honor, this tiverside street is named after him - Muelle Loney Street. "Muelle" is a Spanish word which means "Wharf".

Ibig mo sabihin Bacolod, maraming spaghetti wires. You mean Bacolod, it has plenty of thick spaghetti wires in the streets. It's only you who says palaisdaan, all the foreigners and western bloggers are in praise of ILOILO's Esplanades and river and the city's overall cleanliness. You must be from bacolod, because people from that place have the tendency to envy Iloilo by commenting the opposite of what ILOILO is, which is clean, beautiful, orderly, progressive and heavy with well preserved heritage buildings, plentiful well maintained parks and Riverside Esplanades, and plazas and flower gardens, wide choice of restaurants and native eateries, especially friendly and hospitable locals. You are welcome to ILOILO, #Sotanghon80 , my friend.

Esplanade is ok, but not really good enough, coz when you walk along this area and the rain comes, no waiting shade available to stay until the rains gone. That's the biggest mistake when you walk along esplanade.
@FrankandRhoge
@FrankandRhoge 23 күн бұрын
Hi Jasmine, I think its true anywhere in the Philippines, it will rain suddenly without warning. Its always best to wear a hat or carry an umbrella for those unexpected downpours that are so common especially during the rainy season.

That river doesn't overflow due to rain that's because it's an estuary/bayou. It's salty for It is an part of the sea It has high tide & lowtide . It is not connected to any river, only creek and drainage system of the city. It's end point is in Oton town of Iloilo👍👍🙏

Thank you for your insightful comment. After a few days I realized the river was tidal, we actually saw her headwaters near Oton, fascinatiing from a watershed perspective.
