Huh ya know I never thought dogs could also die from choking incidents. I thought that they could just produce their own oxygen in their lungs. I would’ve never guessed they could die from choking, just like a human.💀💀

We have Great Pyrenees dogs as pets. Years ago one chewed and quickly swallowed a piece of a rawhide chew…She appeared to swallow it down, but later developed a hacking cough. We took her for an endoscopy…thinking it was stuck in her throat, but the vet called us back and said she likely had vomited and aspirated it into her lungs causing pneumonia. Now they get raw meat, eggs, etc…but no chews or ANY bones period. What I do know from having had 4 Pyrenees is my hand fits entirely down their throat, so far that I can retrieve whatever they swallow if I’m fast enough…lol.. They have relatively short digestive tracts, and can actually vomit up their own excrement if they get sick enough. Disgusting…🤢 But they lived!

Looked this up while my dog was gasping for air. Having to wait through two sponsored ads made me furious while my dog was choking. Lifesaving videos shouldn’t be monetized.

My 67 pound mutt started choking when I had dropped a treat in her open mouth as she was sitting with her muzzle pointed up at the ceiling and it seemed to go down the wrong way. I could tell something weird was wrong with her breathing from the effort she was making to try to get air. Not knowing how to do the Heimlich on a dog, but having been trained to do it on a human, I linked my hands under her body below the rib cage and tried lifting her upwards slightly several times. It did dislodge the treats and she started breathing normally.

I wish I would've known this, my dog just passed from choking a few hours ago :(

Dr Jules I have a Bishon x Shitzu and since last night he has been choking and is unable to throw up. He’s been panting and choking but I know these dogs do have breathing issues. He is 20 years old and I don’t want him to suffer and I took him to the vet who said just watch him. So I’ve not slept for two days running into the third. Do you have any advice???
