Really makes you wonder what a DX7 general MIDI soundset would sound like; better than an OPL chip for sure
@fogbongler6 күн бұрын
Can I ask, what did you originally perform / sequence (specifically the drums) with? Just played from a keyboard controller and recorded midi in Logic? Thanks
@SethNova5 күн бұрын
Yep, recorded the MIDI in Logic via a keyboard controller, quantized, and then recorded the TG77 playback of the MIDI to an audio track. Typically with drums I'll record each thing to its own track (kick, snare, hats, etc) for more control over the drum mixing. Here they're all summed to one "Factory Drums" track for the sake of keeping the tracks display cleaner. Something I started doing somewhat recently.

Thank you, and yes! The drum kit patches I used are also from this card, but they use the drum waveforms already on the JD-990

quite excellent and very authentically sounding use of these instruments. I'm currently working on what I consider my Magnum Opus and I'm often wandering how much of this style exists on the SY77 because it's a tremendously good organic sound you can often get from the machine
@SethNova17 күн бұрын
Thank you! The SY77/TG77 to me has always felt like a primary go-to for this sort of sound/vibe. I like pairing it with the Roland D550 as well.

It's such a shame that i don't use more of this beautiful sample cd (Kontakt Ver), you've really done it justice -- it's just as cool as the actual demos on the website, have you considered the idea of making tracks using CDDA sample cds as well?
@SethNova22 күн бұрын
Thank you! Definitely open to that, I just don't have much in terms of titles formatted as CDDA right now and always try to find the sampler-specific versions of everything, for workflow reasons. But there are so many CD format only titles out there and I'd love to start messing with those more at some point! Any that you recommend?

Zero-G still sells it on their website in Kontakt and WAV formats. Unless you're looking for an old copy in a specific proprietary sampler format?

@@SethNova there's a lot of discussion about the Akai (possibly?) version being used for video games in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
@SethNovaАй бұрын
@@almikkus79 Yes it's true that those game composers may have been working with the Akai format version. I had looked over a listing of what is included with the Kontakt version they sell now and it appears identical to the contents of the Akai CD. Shouldn't be any difference.

I love how authentic the style of your tracks are to the very specific 80's into the 90's transitional sound; it's something a lot of retro-synth artists on here don't seem to achieve.
