Before I moved I had a tank that was pretty self sufficient like this. The fish load was small and the amount of snails meant no algae build up. The shrimps and corydoras kept it tidy too. I only had a small army of neon tetras in it otherwise. It had a ton of floating plants that almost blocked the light but plants still grew. I had leaves and tannins in the water and the pH levels were great. I was sad to have to dismantle that tank. It was perfect and the lid made it so I hardly had to even top the water off. It was so clean and nice. I love when nature just works and you can enjoy a nice tank like that.

Thanks for getting back so fast. I definitely will check it out. Love the set up by the way and the variety of animals you have in there. I have a bunch of mixed shrimp to because of my ex mixing them all together so now most are clear or striped. Lol I'm making a new set up for them and some Moon Crabs. Not sure on the kind of fish I want yet though. I do love Loaches and have a couple different kinds in my aquariums already. I like those blind fish don't think I've ever seen any around here. They almost remind me of Cory catfish.

Just wandering if you use just cimoletly standard garden soil? Also, di you yse aquarium soecifc aand? And are you not worried about anything thay could be in the root that you collevted from a local steam?
