There is still a long way to go for the solid state battery to be widely used in EVs. So conventional Li ion batteries will still be the main horces for a quite few years ahead.

I'm sorry, but the bot reading this sounds so stupid, I can't bring myself to believe anything I hear. Furthermore, if the OP is so stupid to publish this piece of crap, it has no value at all.

Long term winner is diesel... :) EVs dont have much moving parts which when designed well will not create problems... They have electronics with software that will fault as quick as your cellphone... Which is 2 3 years... Sorry... :)

Having owned both for almost 6+y the answer is very clear. EVs are far cheaper to buy and own over 5y. The longer the more savings from EV. Not to mention EV is also drastically lower in pollution. EV saves approx. $1200/y on gas alone (for avg of 50mi driving per day) + $7500 Federal Credit + state credit as applicable (e.g. NJ gives $5k on top of this). So a $50k Tesla Model 3 becomes $37500 right at the start. With $7200k gas savings over 6y and add tire rotation cost, it is now $30,500 basically. There are no real things to maintain apart from rotate tires and change air filter. Gas cars cost about the same at start - $50k for say a good comparable BMW, Audi, Lexus etc. Then oil changes + misc maintenance + cost of gas. Overall, I've found EVs significantly cheaper. Gas cars are amazing and fun to drive but imo EVs are cheaper to own/maintain + EVs are way way cooler and accelerate very fast. One negative against EV - can't really repair them. If you get into an accident in an EV, it's basically totaled. Gas cars are repairable for most things.

The reason you outline is one that mainly prevents me from buying an EV. You state that if you get into an accident your EV is basically totaled. I like things that can be repaired rather than scrapped because you have to admit that cars shouldn't be treated like household appliances and if that's what things have come to it's a real concern. I don't care too much for cutting edge technology either because at the end of the day all the damn thing has to do is get me from point A to point B. I like something that is basic, reliable, inexpensive to insure and economical.

@ 100%. I agree w you. But sadly EVs are very complex pieces of engineering and one minor accident and it’s totaled completely. It is a shame really. Gas cars are very complex too but repairable. If that’s you thing to tinker yourself and get it repaired then EV should be your 2nd car. IMO 99% folks don’t care about repairing and honestly good insurance does compensate for EV well.

A tax credit is not a rebate and does not change the price of the vehicle. It just means you lower your taxable liability by the credit amount. If the credit is $7.500 and your tax liability is 15%, then your actual saving is $1,124. Car salesman love to make you think otherwise. You didn't include the charging cost, which is about the same if you charge at a charging station. Manufacturing an EV causes more pollution than an ICE and what is going to happen to all of the battery waste. The biggest saving would be in maintenance, but only if you hold it longer than the warranty. After that, the ICE would be much more expensive to own since mechanics these days seem to be competing with lawyer wages. The big question is....Where is all this electricity going to come from? California is eliminating natural gas and we already are admonished and charged more for using power from 4 pm to 9. Maybe it's all fake. I'm not saying you are wrong about owning an EV, just that everybody's situation is different and your reasoning is mostly inaccurate and definitely not applicable to all.

@ it’s not true that way today. Used to be that way with tax credit. Now you get price reduction. Plus state also gives you a check. Full tank Charging at home costs $10. At supercharger it is $30. Gas full tank is $60. Most charge at home 95% time. Only apt dwellers have some issues. EV = pollution to make + refuel Gas = pollution to make + refuel + run EV is less polluting. My reasoning applies vastly to 90% EV owners which is why Teslas are everywhere now. Not everyone can be stupid always. EVs will be everywhere in just a few years. You’ll see. Gas will become rare soon

This headline is so out of touch with reality it is pathetic. EV's are nothing but a millstone that moronic politicians want to hang around my neck. The reasons to avoid these vehicles are such as to make me think only people with money to burn or who are willingly blind to those reasons would buy them. Listen to MGUY Australia's list of 10 reasons why not to buy an EV if you haven't been following the news.

Just one word here to counter this article's headline WRONG. Proof being actual sales numbers in this country, look 'em up and weep, EV nuts because like all the ICE vehicles hovering in the average 70 to 90 grand range, they ain't selling! And I don't have to prove any part of my claim, just look at the latest news about car sales in general, look at how many cars are on dealer's lots sitting there unsold and no customer lines at their doors trying to buy one. Both EV's and ICE cars are priced way far out of the average American budgets and it's glaringly showing. Hopefully Trump can quickly reverse this problem or this country is in a 'heap of trouble'.

EV vs ICE for the same range and peformance: larger volume; higher weight; longer time to recharge. No contest, present technology favors PHEV or simply ICE. IMMHO: Praise EV, drive ICE.

It’s not just EVs that are increasing the demand for electricity; demand has risen in every part of life. In some countries, home heaters have been converted from gas to electric, which dramatically increases electricity consumption.

Very soon, there will be an electricity crisis, as power stations won't be able to supply enough electricity for the large number of vehicles." Consider that as electric vehicle (EV) adoption grows, the demand on the power grid is expected to increase significantly. The transition to EVs indeed presents challenges for power infrastructure, particularly in areas where grids are already stretched thin.

hopefully, the solar-powered Aptera will begin production next year but the long range (880 miles?) Aptera 1000 wont be built until the more popular models have been built. Aptera will be the most aerodynamic, most efficient, most economical, most environmentally friendly, etc. mass produced car ever. there are 48,000+ ordered
