"Would film music hold up if people weren't fans of the films" A very astute point, that's true of so many things. What would it be like watching Star Wars and Jurassic Park without John William's music? How would popular multiplayer games compare to actually good games were to no chat boxes? Would that movie be great without the actor that elevated the material and the other actors with their acting? This level of understanding really speaks to Danny's experience with music. You only realize things like this when you've spent hundreds of hours working on something. Like neo in the matrix, he sees all the code, a composer, movie maker, game maker sees all the parts and gets frustrated by people getting hooked on trivial cheap psychological tricks. That's why when you rate a movie or game that consist of many disciplines. You have to rate each category and calculate an average. Not allow the thing you're biased for to cloud your judgement on the true quality of the work.

The music starts at ~6:00 it could have been recorded better. Plenty of energy in the performance, although this piece, combining Latin dance music with a Rite Of Spring idiom might be out at the far end of the difficulty scale for a student orchestra. But if they don't keep trying challenging music, how will they get any better? And that tympanist has STYLE.

How old are the members? Early 20's, on average? And let's say that one generation is 25 years. This means that these musicians' grandparents were still children when Her Late Majesty ascended to the throne. Mind-boggling, in a way....

I have heard many versions of the full ballet. I can honestly say that I have NEVER heard a better version than this one. The dynamics are precise, yet expressive, the balance is wonderful. Rhythmically very tight, and yet not rushed. (I loved the space you gave to the Berceuse). . As I was listening, I was wondering which sections to heap praise upon, but it got hard to pick out any single section since the orchestra was so solid througout. This version was astonishing from beginning to end. (Also, a very good recording.) Thanks to the NYO for posting this! This was a great combination of skill and creative fire.

Listening to Danny Elfman speak as he shares his thoughts on the creative processes etc., is almost as good as listening to his music. He's brilliant, so passionate and absolutely fascinating.

Hola. Soy director de orquesta sinfónica. Llevo dirigiendo diferentes orquesta por 22 años. En todos estos años me toco interpretar esta bellísima obra varias veces. Los felicito pero esta obra que han logrado hacer, suena muy bien, obviamente hay que corregir algunos cosas. Pero lo primero es sacar al chico de la trompeta, no se merece tocar esta hermosa obra.
