There are no words available in the English language to completely describe this great muscistion. Muscistion understates him.

I like to play classical guitar sometimes, can someone please explain to me how is he able to do that tremolo thing? His right hand doesn't match, or does. It's beautifully strange and mesmerising to look at

Beautiful sound, impeccable strong sense of rhythm, in short: music, just music. I agree, David is the best (and most human, generous) guitarist of his generation.

No one pulls off the vals in re by Barrios like him. This is seriously technically challenging to play even just the few bars after the harmonics in the beginning. Laaaa Te la te la Laaa te la te la . All while being as expressive as possible....

His ability to be a lens through which the music shines, instead of trying to shine himself, is literally unmatched except perhaps by Segovia. When you hear Russell you hear what the composer heard in his mind. So many players today, and maybe it’s always been this way, seem incapable but to make every note into a scene all it’s own that shows off their emotionality or technicality; all of which distract you from the music. You often notice a lot of visible emotionality from these players. But with Russell that emotionality just isn’t there. The emotion is in the music. I hate to say it, but I cringe when I look random stuff up because so often it’s just a ramp for the player. I can even say that for certain songs that I learned before I heard Russell play them I thought he was playing without enough emphasis in parts, and he forced me to rethink what was necessary, and how all this emphasizing really only confused the pieces and took away from the total effect throughout the piece. Luckily I had a great teacher who used Russell as a guidepost.
