A real life comment on HP for a boat. I had a 16' Crestliner Fish Hawk rated for 75HP but I had ordered it with a 45HP Mercury outboard. I had a fixed route we took where we stopped and anchored the boat for the day of fun. On the return trip, about 1/3 of the way back, the motor would empty a 5 Gallon tank of gas and stop running. I would hook up my 2nd tank to finish the trip home. Years later I sold that 45 HP motor and had a new 75 HP Mariner outboard on the same boat. We took the same route as always but to my surprise, I almost made it all the way back home before 1st tank of gas ran out, this with a much bigger engine. Engines powering a boat in water do not perform the same as auto engines. There is always a load on a boat engine. This experience showed me that it is always better to have a bigger boat motor working in it's mid range then to have a smaller outboard running at max. RPMs. It will show in fuel consumption and the bigger engine will last longer before repairs are needed.

Hi i wonder if I can ask you 1 thing. Have a holland steel boat about 12 tonns. New was whit 60 70hp and i dont know gearbox aksel and propeller. Upgraded 1996 to volvo penta tmd31A ore tmd31B. Papers on both in a 1 ownder sens 1981. But this new propeller is wrong i belive.. Aksel goes stright back and on to a propeller. I do have exact propeller diameter way, and I belive this pitch. Not really shure. But I am out traveling whit the boat, but not in boat now. But if you can help me whit ur knowdleg and smart brain, I send it to you all info i have. Problem is when them goes from 60 70 ore 80hp 3selyndret diesel, TO A VOLVO PENTA DIESEL TMD31A. Them sey from penta it is "probably" right. But them alsow telling me that ore this spesific diesel engine goes lowest on diesel in like 3600RPM. YES 3600 RPM. Have tryed that, but thats sucks and when i hsve had 100eds of diesel cars and engine over the time, I like it more about 1800 to 2400 at max. 1800 to 2200 is the same speed in knots. But low like 5.0 knots . If I goes babans and drive 2400 ore say max 2500rpm. It will make 6 knots. But some are noy right here i belives. Can i get your thinking of this now after see ur awsome video ???? There is a tumb of roul that have to Spear so much spare over topp of propeller to floor of boat. I think i heard this in european COUNTRIES hsve to be 10 centimeter??? From topp of blade to hull of boat ???? Maby more pitsh so i lower rpm more and can drive at 1800rpm like all european fishing boats ???? My boat is holland curtevene 950. 9.5 meter. 32 33 feet ? It is a famely cruiser ore famely hollydays boat. I Just made it over to cabin/aparmant on the sea. And pensjonist cos of a broken back. So my dream for 19 years now have bean traveling down european waterways from norway to MIDELTERAINEN and around there. And as a 40 year of have hsd diesel trucks and cars. IT GETS HARD FOR ME TO USE RPM THATS PAPER SAYS. HAVE TO BE BETTER WHIT LOWER RPM ??? AND WHIT SAVING OF DIESEL??? PAPER FOR ENGINE ACTUALY SAYS GOES LOWEST CONSUME AT 3600RPM. BUT THIS HAVE TO BE IN A PLANER BOAT ????? SHULD BELIVE LOWER RPM MAKES LOWER CONSUME ??? I CAN BE WERY WRONG. BUT HOPE YOU CAN SHARE SOME OF UR THINKINGS ???? HEAVY BOAT AT 12 TONNS ABOUT THAT ZISE. BUT NO ONES CAN MAKD ME ANY RECOMENDINGS ORE ANYTHING. SO NOW I KROSS MY FINGERS THAT YOU CAN GIVR ME SOME POINTERS. WILL HAVE ALL SPEC AT ENGINE AND PROPELLER LITTLE LATER TO DAY. AND NOW I AM IN HOLLAND THAT HAVE SOLAS PROPELLERS FOR SALES. ANOTHER ONE, HAVE PROPELLERS MADE HUGE INPROVMENTS LAST YEARS?? I KNOW MOTOR THST WAS HERE BEFORE 60 70 HP ABOUT. SAY 80 TO BE SAFE. BUT THEM SOLD ALL WHEN VOLVO PENTA WHIT PENTA GEARBOX SHAFT AND PROPELLER NON ONE CAN TELL ME HOW IT SHOULD BE. ALSOW GEARBOX I DONT KNOW HOW THIS IS GEARED TOGETHER. THATS SAYS ON THE GEARBOX MABY ???? I REALLY HOPE YOU ONE OF THIS DAYS IN FUTURE CAN GIVE me some pointer. Will see after ur coment daily 😂🎉😂❤❤❤ Propp is 21 i tvink left Turned and some number for pitsh. Have had some boats before. But use to go BETWEEN 6 7 8. Not down in 4.5 to 5 on normal power. If gives more power, the ladys Ass just going down and ur diesel consume gets way up there. And all boat yards and shop all say strange, cos over power motor and still slow and not up BETWEEN 6 8 them say them belived i would get to be in that range.

I bought a 2017 Suntracker 22ft Party Barge with Mercury 150 4 stroke. Boat had about 45 hours that was July 2020 for 25k. We use the boat at least 3 times a month and just love it. Not the fanciest boat on lake but we have a ton of fun. Have not had 1 single issue with boat or moror we have Cabelas due maint as that where boat came from new. I have oil change every season and impeller every 2 years. When I get in the water always float under boat and inspect underside and still looks new. Don't need a 80/125k boat to have a great time.. Nice boats for sure but not an average family boat. Everyone just enjoy your boat no matter what kind it is .. Its yours and your families to enjoy together No competition just fun👍

As long as you are in relatively shallow water, Sea Legs seems to be a pretty useful system to have on your pontoon boat. But, I have some observations/suggestions to make: 1 - The system should be auto-leveling. A simple Up/Down button should be sufficient on the remote. The control system for Sea Legs could - and, should - have the ability to automatically raise or lower the legs so that the boat remains level. As long as the boat is level, both the front and rear should be going up or down. When the boat becomes unlevel, one or the other end of the boat should stop raising or lowering, depending on which end is higher or lower. This is simple logic and should be easily implemented in the system - which, I presume is a rather expensive add-on option. 2 - There should be a system of alarm beeps/flashes that indicate potential issues - like battery voltage is reaching critical level, system fully deployed/retracted, obstruction detected that prevents full retraction, excessive weight, etc. This would help customers to trouble-shoot the system and reduce calls for support. 3 - The system should have an auto-reset circuit breaker that resets when an acceptable battery voltage is detected. The auto reset can be based on temperature or voltage and can be on a timer so that it is not constantly tripping and resetting in rapid succession. Again, this is something that is easily implemented and would reduce support calls. 4 - There should be an LED indicator on the dashboard of the boat to indicate whether the system is deployed/retracted. I can imagine a scenario where the boat is in water that is too deep for the Sea Legs to raise the boat, but the legs are still deployed. If the boat is floating with the legs fully extended, I can imagine a boat owner not being aware and driving the boat with the legs deployed - which could result in a catastrophic condition should the legs strike an object or the bottom while the boat is moving. Additionally, it might be helpful for the system to detect the depth of the water and not deploy if the water is too deep at either end of the boat. 5 - Operation should be possible from dashboard mounted switches, as well as from the remote. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for the video.

You should do the comparison on a boat that is actually in the same category as Barletta not a much cheaper mid class boat like an Avalon. To show how it truly stacks up to the competition you should do a comparison against Bennington, Harris, and Godfrey. I was bought in on Barletta until I owned one. Faded seats, Faded fuel fill, and more problems after only 2 years and all they said was " that is normal wear and tear". Broken cheap corner caps. I grew to hate the electric Bimini because it would constantly go out leaving me unable to use my boat. Or if the battery was dead it was stuck in that position. I hated the finger braking latches to lock in the bimini on the front legs. I traded it in and ended up taking a chance on a Bennington. They sold me once I started actually learning about pontoon boats and not just being "sold" on their features. I was blown away at how it compared to my Barletta. My new Bennington has drain channels above the seats preventing the water from reaching my storage area in the first place. The hinges on the Bennington are easier for me to use and more user friendly. My Bennington's seat base is 1 piece so it has actual long storage not just a hole that doesn't actually function on the Barletta. My Bennington has storage in the helm. My Bennington's GPS is fully integrated and gives me a beautiful looking helm I was not stuck with the ugly tachometers and fuel gauges I got with the Barletta and every other pontoon. I also Love the front deck on my Bennington. It has twice the front deck of my old Barletta. It was hard to anchor out, dock, load and unload on such a tiny front deck with my Barletta. The chains on the back of my Barletta ultra lounge were so loud and annoying I heard them over the motor and on every wave I hit. My new Bennington has a tension spring on the chain and I rarely hear it unless the waves are crazy rough. My favorite thing about my Bennington is the 10 year transferable warranty. My Barletta had only a 5 years transfer so I am glad I sold it before I lost that. On Barletta's KZbin videos their comments are turned off because of all of the problems and negativity from owners stating many problems. On their facebook groups you have to have a vin number to join a Barletta owners page because of all of the upholstery problems so they can keep unsatisfied customers separated from future buyers. On internet forums comments are turned off so nothing bad can be spoken. My Barletta wasn't the best pontoon boat on the market like they put it out to be. Yes it is better than an Avalon but doesn't seem to be as well crafted as Harris, Godfrey, or Bennington. It sure seems like Barletta spends a fortune on advertising, you see their name everywhere on websites, paying people to speak great about the brand on youtube videos, and covering up comments and feedback. The entire brand didn't feel transparent to me and it did not live up to the hype.

Well I have read every comment on this post and I did over 6 months of researching before I decided to purchase the 2022 Barletta 20UC model and I have to say this has been nothing but a DISASTER for my family. All of Barletta's big marketing crap and this boat I purchased had NO QC at all after it was built at the factory. I have been boating for over 35 years and have NEVER seen anything like this on a brand new boat for $75,000 spent from my bank account! The dealership I bought it from has been HORRIBLE to work with and between Barletta and the dealership all they say is I AM SORRY! I have now told both of them all these words fix NOTHING at all. I will NEVER buy another Barletta pontoon ever again.....and I feel I got a 100% lemon and now fear of how many more problems I am going to have????? Bolts loose all over boat, nuts just laying on floor, bimini down button has been a MAJOR issue for me and still does not work, front left docking light is 50% bright as the right one is and yellowish..... again I cannot believe what I was sold brand new and all these issues right on the 1st day of purchase.......... WOW!

5 year Barletta warranty? It’s actually 10 years on everything from the deck up.. that’s upholstery, electronics, everything on the boat. The structure of the boat is lifetime warranty. I’ve sold a lot of pontoon boats and never have a had a company stand behind their product like Barletta does. A warranty is only as good as the company that backs it. the quality of it is on point. We’ve only had one actuator go out in five years. That’s impressive to me hands-down the best pontoon in the industry.

So the 2nd year Barletta was in business they had the weird seat issue. The glue backing and the vinyl reacted weird. It happened to a whole run of Barletta boats.. Barletta didn’t just do seat skins because their customers would’ve been without their boat all summer long because it would’ve taken the dealerships forever to complete this task with as many boats that were affected. Neither did they replace just one or two pieces of furniture on the boat that was affected because nothing would have matched, seeing as they were four years in. Barletta replaced the entire furniture package. No question asked no hassle. Yes it might’ve taken a little bit longer than people wanted because there were so many boats affected. However, you could still use your boat until it was your turn in line on the service schedule. There was no major mechanical issue, keeping anyone from using their boats. It was all cosmetic. We were picking up boats on Sundays after the families were done using them and then dropping them back off a few days later. Another company I worked for had a problem with the flooring. The front and back of the boats not covered with the cover was turning a rusty brown color, almost like it was burning. My guess was not enough UV and their vinyl flooring. That boat company declined the warranty claim due to error of cleaning products which is a complete lie. A warranty is only as good as the company that backs it.
