I love Ted's work. It speaks to my heart, mind, and soul more than any other Tolkien artist. It's a delight to watch him discuss his work. ♥

I can't believe that this has just finally come up in my suggestions 5 years after it was uploaded >.< What a great video. Ted Nasmith has an almost magical visual interpretation of Tolkien's world, and the art he creates on the subject matter is phenomenal. I have seen his art featured over and over again in Middle-Earth lore videos. It's always among the best art of the videos.

I have a Ted Nasmith calender and the Silmarillion edition with his illustrations. I also have some Brothers Hilderbrandt items and I dearly love their painting of The Wedding of King Aragorn. And their painting, Lady Goldberry, is one of the only renditions of her that I've ever seen. Their art is heavily medieval inspired, but so what? At the time they were creating their art, it was all we had.

Each of the "Big 3" artists have images that are the "definitive" interpretation of that scene in my mind. For John Howe, it is the picture of Ulmo revealing himself to Tuor. Alan Lee it is the Mirror of Galadriel. But no one has more "nailed it" interpretations as Mr. Nasmith. My favorites are Morgoth and the High King of the Noldor from the Silmarillion and the last words of Boromir. But so many others are so perfect: At the court of the fountain in Minas Tirith. . The Glittering Caves of Aglarond. The fury of the mountain. The Shores of Valinor. I am so grateful that someone out there with such talent and drive took the time to so accurately bring to life the very scenes I saw in my head.

I always enjoy seeing Tolkien artists’ work. Each one has a different spin on the same material. The styles all speak to you in different ways. This guy is very talented

I really appreciate his comments at the end about the Gandalf being tempted by the ring and then the scene at the Council of Elrond. There's a tendency to wear yourself down when you labor over a body of work for so long and in such detail, but he still clearly appreciates Tolkien's greater message. It seems as if he's fighting back tears.

I wish he had accepted the offer to be one of the conceptual artists. Had he joined the team, the movie will be unstoppable. But I respect his decision. When I read LOTR and the Hobbit I went to his website and look on his works and wow, it really did colored my visual perception of the story. His art was a powerful medium to further express the essence of Tolkien's work. What an exceedingly talented man. Kudos!

I wish they had re-extended the offer to Ted when they started working on The Hobbit films... but I guess, by then, they didn't feel the same need for the help of more classical Tolkien artists. Did you notice, however, that they actually show Ted's art in the extended DVD "making-of" featurettes for both The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit films? If his influence wasn't already clear, the fact that they show his paintings in the making-of features proves it without a doubt.

Yes, I think I saw a couple of his works in the making-of LOTR. His influence was very evident in the production. He truly has a gift.

Peter Jackson wanted two opposite main Tolkien artists. Alan Lee : for the beauty and dream like style etc. and John Howe : for the horror, nightmare and darkness :). And it works so well.
