This type of Dubstep is as alive as it was 15 years ago. Tons of people still produce this music and there's festivals like Outlook Festival that are huge. Just look up "deep dubstep". It's what this is labeled nowadays.

it's weird... i got into dubstep kinda after the "OG", pre-2009 days. Got in with Sleeper, District, Kryptic Minds, etc. Was heavy into DnB starting in '99 or so, but kinda fell away from dance music for a few years while I nursed a habit.Anyhow, these more raw, basic wobble tracks I never liked... for whatever reason, I m ready NOW!!! Love this stuff!

Fun fact: that sub-bass is actually produced from a kick-drum sound, crushed through a compressor with the resonance turned up and up until it begs for mercy.

Compressors don't have resonance . A filter would and then again, you would probably use a high pass filter with resonance on say a given sound to get it high level of phatness.
