I am using sketchup 2016 and any time i create an object that is attached to another object and regardless that I have them in two different layers the lines disappear... how can i fix this?

How do you move something along a single axis? I guess you need to figure that out before this video does you any good. With the example where the box has the lines where you want it to follow. How do you make an object move along just one axis?

Hi and thanks for the tutorials. I'm a beginner, question: I made two simple cube shapes similar to yours in this video and another one you made, when I moved one against the other and lined the H and V edges perfectly they did not stick. I pushed the space bar for the select tool and triple clicked but they highlight separately, and move separately. Can you help me understand

One problem in SketchUp when it comes to isolate layers plugin attempts, has always been that a group can have nested groups that are in other layers (an object can be in 2 layers at the same time if you nest it), how does this plugin handle this?

@@Thesketchupessentials because I use it for furniture and woodworking. SketchUp is a better tool and does a better job for this application. The what they (Chief Architect) call “3D/Polyline Solid” is a bit awkward to work with compared to Sketchup.

Justin I have installed it but when i try to download any free map It always says "Cannot download marketplace map: download request failed, raw request failed, invalid response". What is the issue, why can i not download the free map?

just found this video, does it work, for example I want to create a lock component with cut for lock and cut for barrel, so I have a cut on the x axes and a cut on the y axes, and then insert it into a group (from either engineering toolbox or the plugin DBS). thanks for any help

Do all my plugins break again? They arent designed for 2024 I used software 30 years ago that let you move vertices, but not sketchup!

Depends on the plugins you're using and if they're compatible, if the developer needs to update them so they work, etc. This is pretty normal across all 3D software, not limited to SketchUp. As to moving vertices, SketchUp isn't really built around modeling with vertices, but rather with faces. That was kind of the original "point" of SketchUp was to simplify modeling to the point that you drew a face, and extruded it. While it might preclude some more advanced modeling, it also makes SketchUp significantly easier for beginners to use as opposed to something like Blender.

@@Thesketchupessentials Totally disagree. Sketchup makes outside developers create tools for free, that break every update and require you to pay again to get them. Simple things like moving vertexes, you have to pay extra for. And pay every time sketchup updates. What other 3d software gives you a version that forces outside developers to make it useable? Pretty normal? Across ALL 3d software? LOL 20+ years ago, every 3d software was full featured, let you move vertices, etc... Sketchup - NOT EVEN FUCKING CLOSE

@@CStoph1979 You're conflating two different statements. Plugins/extensions break sometimes across pretty much all 3D software when new versions are rolled out. This happens with SketchUp new releases, Blender new releases, Rhino new releases. It's something that will ALWAYS happen on platforms that allow third party add-ons, because the main software update usually precedes those developers being able to update their extensions, so things break. As to the rest of your comments (vertex editing, etc) - like I said, SketchUp is designed to model in a different way. It might work for you, it might not. If it doesn't, you can use something else. That's the benefit of having other options, and I encourage everyone to find the 3D software that meets their needs. Good luck!

@@Thesketchupessentials You guys purposefully make your software crap so other people have to make it useful for you, for free! Then update every 2 years, cant even add a dark mode, and all the plugins break, and you have to hope there is a new version when many times there are not. Your software is so bad that you cant even give your users the ability to move vertices without paying extra every update. There is no other software out there that gives its users so little. 3d MAX, LIGHTWAVE, MAYA, every 3d software until you guys came out had basic functions you cant seem to add. Blender is feature filled. You are featureless. And blender is FREE! I never knew it was a feature to give your users less. I guess that comes from being created by google.

When using the polyline for animation, there is no pop up box to enter the radius. The same thing with every other curve that requires a parameter input.
