Hi!! Mostly depends on Cost advantages The low cost of the cylindrical FPSO concept, as compared to other concepts, is based on following project outputs: Low lightship weight, including large storage capacity. The hull does not weathervane; therefore a turret is not included in design but the hull is spread moored.

Hi there!! It is called remotely operated vehicle (ROV). It is a submersible craft used to perform underwater observation, inspection and physical tasks such as valve operations, hydraulic functions and other general tasks within the subsea oil and gas industry, military, scientific and other applications. ROVs can also carry tooling packages for undertaking specific tasks such as pull-in and connection of flexible flowlines and umbilicals, and component replacement. They are usually operated by wire from a team of people on the vessel. Lunch and retrieve of these ROVs is done by dedicate lifting operation (no divers are required).

Subsequent to the initial accident report, wasn’t failure of the foredeck stores hatch cover dispelled? Didn’t remnants of rope from cats cradle over the hatch indicate that the hatch had been blown off as the ship sank, as opposed to have been the originating cause, with the initial cause having been actually attributed to water ingress through vents? Ultimately the same outcome after she started to ride low in the bow, BUT important in respect to any suggestion of poor seamanship in the initial investigation (though not suggested in this video) that may have attributed to the failure of the foredeck hatch cover.

I think that store hatch cover just refused to close and that rope configuration was the next best thing, but yeah whether blown off before or after the final plunge it didn't matter too much.

Water ingress through the hatches is also what sank the Edmund Fitzgerald. Photos and video from the wreck clearly show hatch clamps not dogged at all. Not broken mind you, just not being used.

Whether they were clamped down or not, the fact that the cargo holds still imploded means they were not flooded as Derbyshire sank. The only intact piece is the tip of the bow.

This was a study done funded by the insurance company to avoid payments. The vessel suffered aa catastrophic bulkhead failure by the accommodation due to a design fault. Her sister ship had the same defect and showed cracking and had to have strengthening plates fitted. This is yet another example of insurance companies operating a Ponzi scheme.

I sailed on one of the sister ships - Sir Alexander Glen and exactly 12 months after the Derbyshire sank we were heading to Japan with same cargo and heading into a Typhoon. We diverted to miss the eye of the storm. I was convinced for many years after that the reason the Derbyshire sank was due to cracks appearing in the bulkhead between accommodation and holds. I took a cine film of the start of the storm and it is on my channel. I digitised, edited and uploaded to my channel.

@capspread
@capspread Жыл бұрын
@@fishsayswhatsgoingon The significance of it didn't really register until much later due to this reason. I sailed on the same ship 12 months later and during that trip we received notification from the shipping company to check for cracks between bulkhead and the hold in engine room. Sure enough there were cracks. These had to be monitored daily. It was happening on all the other sister ships (5 of them). It hit home then. I was convinced that's why the Derbyshire sank and why we also had a lucky escape 12 months earlier. I was many years later before we found out the real reason why Derbyshire sank.

@@ZombieSlayer-dj3wb Very true - but as the reason for the sinking were air vents in the bow - the covering cad had been lost during the storm - perhaps it was a disaster just waiting to happen and the storm just speeded things up.
@cycorix4614
@cycorix4614 6 ай бұрын
@capspread No, it was not an open hatch. This was an incorrect conclusion of the first inquiry and used to falsely blame the crew for many years. Photos of the wreck still show the rope attached to the hatch fastenings which had been used to secure them shut, proving the crew did not leave the hatch open and it was ripped open during the sinking. The true cause of the water ingress into the bow storage compartment was proved by MARIN (Marine Research Institute, Netherlands) to be through air vents in the bow, the covering caps for which had been lost during the storm. The extended nature of the storm allowed for enough time for water to fill the entire compartment through even these small holes, which lowered the bow in the water and allowed severe overloading of the main cargo hatches when waves crashed over them. Sorry, it's just that the crew's families fought for many years to clear their names from accusations of negligence. It's important to get that detail right. Personally, I think it's crazy that these ships have many spaces which cannot be accessed while the ship is underway - as I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong), that forward storage room could only be accessed through the bosun's hatch, which involved crossing the deck, which would have been impossible in a storm. So they had no way of inspecting those forward compartments and realizing what was happening while there was still time to do anything about it. Ships should have all compartments accessible or monitor-able in all weathers in my opinion, but given some of the rust buckets I've worked on (dockside) I'd guess that sadly even today this still isn't the case. (And I mean, I've heard stories such as a docker standing in the cargo hold idly picking at a flake of paint on the wall, only for water to start rushing in and them having to shove their finger in the hole while somebody ran to get a welding torch. Sketchy stuff).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Royal Navy have a great video, the Liverpool Bridge is in a set of typhoon rollers, it’s already nose low when the chopper gets there. One of the rollers was just slightly bigger than the rest. As the Derbyshire climbs the wave it doesn’t make the top and the top of the wave crashes down on the foredeck smashing cargo hatch covers 1&2 . The Derbyshire labours over 5 more rollers each crashing over the foredeck filling up holds 1&2. As the Derbyshire travels down the fifth wave the bow is now submerged. As the Derbyshire attempts to begin the climb the front digs in and the wave just swallows the ship in one instant. It happens so fast the chopper has to swing straight around cuz it can’t believe what it just saw. The Derbyshire has gone to the bottom. There’s no doubt the chopper could see the idiots have left a crew hatch open, which left them open to that roller that was just slightly bigger than the rest. Because once 1&2 were open to the sea, well that was it then. Verdict. Crew negligence, boat too long for wave height and frequency⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was proven that the hatch's were closed and were even tied down for added security. The crew was cleared of all charges. This wasn't the only ship that had structural problems either. The blame lies with the companies and the governments negligence and blatant unwillingness to even find out the truth of what happened. Until they were forced to open a investigation after 20 yrs of them not giving a fuck!
