Since the LED driver (or less common, dimmable fluorescent ballast) is what provides the 10 volt DC output for dimming control when powered up via line voltage, I'm guessing the actual dimmer switch is basically an on/off switch with a variable resistor for the low volt wires? Or am I misunderstanding something here?
@prudalavage23 күн бұрын
You are correct. The dimmer is an on/off switch with a variable resistor for the low volt wires.

Line in to the switch and load out to the lights. The 0-10 wires get connect at the dimmer then daisy chain to every light.

If you could talk a little about the code involved with mixing class 1 and class 2 the dimming appears to be on the class 2 section of the power pack. If I’m right I’d need to carry line voltage gauge wire to the fixture. Ever try and put a 12/4 MC cable into one of these LED fixtures. It’s pretty tight. Or am I missing something. The 0 to 10V gauge from the fixture is like 18awg in the same raceway of the fixture.

Thanks for the comment and i will cover the class 1 and 2. Most contractors use MC Luminary cable which has both line and low voltage in the same jacket.

Is 0 to 10V dimming considered class 1 or class 2 from the power pack. I’m using sensorworx brand it appears the dimming uses one side of the relay and the other to the low voltage switch. Wouldn’t I need to carry the line voltage gauge to the fixture ? In my case would be a 12/4 to each fixture
@prudalavage7 ай бұрын
Yes, you need both line voltage and low voltage to the fixture. Most contractors us MC Luminary cable which has 12/2 and 16/2 in the same jacket.
@smash72cutlass307 ай бұрын
My confusion is with regards to the low voltage side. The driver mixes both line and low voltage in the same tiny splice area. And when looking at the diagram on the power pack sensors and LV switches are all on the LV class 1 side. However the dimming is on the class 2 side would I not need to keep the line side gauge wire to the fixture for dimming ? One side goes to the load side relay and the other goes to line side neutral. Running that 16/2 makes me nervous on a 20amp commercial circuit. Also I guess each fixture would need to go back to the driver as apposed to daisy chaining the dimming.

A timeclock would be an additional component outside the panel. Lutron has a grafik eye part QSGRJ-6P which can be connected to it to add a timeclock. The QSN-4T16-S panel also has a contact closure input which you could connect a dry contact from a 3rd party timeclock such as the Intermatic FM1D14A-24

Thanks so much for this video. It helps a lot. So I understand I need to use 16 to 18 gauge wire to wire all the gray and purple wires together from light to light and then go to the dimmer switch. But gray and purple must be run separate from the 14/2 wire, per code? How many lights, that use 160 watts per light. can I use? I plan to do 6 lights with each one taking 160 watts on one dimmer switch. Will that work?
@prudalavage2 жыл бұрын
Local codes are different. I work in Philadelphia and most electricians use MC LED cable which has the power and dimming in the same cable. www.encorewire.com/products/mc-led.html. The limit for a dimming zone is the relay rating- usually 8 amps but verify. The 0-10 limit is in milliamps- which you can look up but I would feel comfortable with 6 fixtures.

Wait, so I have to run what between the dimmer switch and the lights? Two lines? What kind of wiring in my walls and ceiling should I use? If so, that means I have to tear out a LOT of drywall that took the contractors about 5 months to install. Can I just put the dimmer on the power lines to the driver box like regular lights?
@prudalavage2 жыл бұрын
Dimmers that dim over the 120 volt line (phase dim) are available and have been used for years. Your fixtures need to be built for phase dim- usually listed as “triac”. Use that type of fixture and dimmer and you don’t need additional wires. 0-10 volt dimming is usually used commercially with acoustic ceilings.

If the fixture provides the 10v is there a way to add a dimmer function at the fixture? Like a circuit that attenuates the voltage? Want to retro some led panels but dont have a low voltage pair of wire to the lights.
@prudalavage2 жыл бұрын
There is a module you can put on every fixture from Lutron called the FCJS-010 which you can mount on every fixture. If you are able to run the 0-10 wire, that is usually the easiest way to dim them. Assumes you have access above the ceiling of course.

What does ultrasonic sensor do?
@prudalavage2 жыл бұрын
The ultrasonic senses motion by putting out sound waves and then checking how they return to the sensor. If the wave is disturbed upon return, then the sensor knows there is someone in the room disturbing the sound waves.

The real catcher here, is that the 0-10v line MUST be in a separate conduit, down to the dimmer switch. you are not allowed to run both the 120v and the 0-10v lines together per the NEC.
