Yep you could do as you explain, or you could follow the manufacturer's instructions for a fix for the exact described problem.

I called Lee and asked about the Auto Drum not being exactly lined up with the hole in the drum where the powder drops in. They put a tech on who helped design the Auto Drum and he told me they intentionally designed it that way, it acts as a powder baffle. I left mine as design with the first tooth of each gear engaged and getting terrific consistent powder drops with TiteGroup and N320. More leakage with TiteGroup as can be expected because it is so fine, almost none with N320.

Thank you. Fixed mine. All Lee said was to let this rotate on turret and that shoot shouldn’t fully align with the hole in drum. Yeah, that makes no sense. Did your fix, it lines up now, and my throws are dead on with one throw out of 6-7 being .1 grain higher. Thank you.

It did work for me and I thank you for your video explaining what to do. Without it I would have probably thrown the thing out out of frustration and anger. You saved the day!!!

That's exactly what mine is/was doing. I took mine apart, cleaned it and even used a dryer sheet to wipe down all the plastic parts to make sure there was no static. Put it all back together per the instructions and it started throwing consistent loads almost immediately.

What you are doing is not necessary. You will throw a complete charge if your setup is correct. (1) the first tooth to the last tooth on the gears are made for a complete charge. You should have left the screw in the original place so the connecting rod stays in charging mode. You moved it to the front hole that is used only when utilizing the Dis-connector and Latch lever for a chain operation. I also notice non full charges with the progressive press setup But if you leave it factory set, it will drop a full charge each time but you must set the powder through expanding die at the proper height. By setting the teeth to the second spot you are causing the tube in the drum to not align for receiving the powder dropping fully from the hopper into the drum and tube. it may work with some powders but not all. The unit will only charge a case if there is one present, better than having to reset or forget and getting a squib load. Ever get a bullet stuck inside a barrel? My friend did it numerous times. All the adjustment should be with the die with the handle in the full down position . The black plastiic square in the metal slot should be close to touching the metal for it to have a full stroke of the powder drum .

i just finished a video on improving the operation of the lee auto drum powder measure, i took it apart and did a polish job in the drum well and i polished up the lee expander plug/powder drop die, complaints about this device range from hearing a clicking sounds to leaks and inaccuracy, so a little inspection and polishing of most metal parts made my new auto drum powder measure very reliable and it was money well spent...others who own this device may differ in your results.

This Video gave me the confidence to get into the minutia. I never got the Drum to Align with the Chute perfectly. Close but not every throw was accurate. Good god it took a while to align the Drum with the chute. The problem I encountered was the hole in the drum would not align! It would over travel the chute or if I tensioned the drum too much it would under travel. There's a fine point where you put just enough slop in the tensioner. Jez it was a lot of work. Once you realize it is NOT a precise method. It's likely that Lee includes in all dies a measuring cup. If you bail on learning how to propely operate this AutoDrum you can hand measure. I loaded about 100 rds of 10mm. I used 8.0gn of Bluedot and my average was above and below however each throw was within .02gn. As with every step using The Turret Press. You must learn it step by step. I
