It's a vanilla implementation of a requester system fulfilled by trains (similar to requester and provider chests). A provider train drops the materials off in a central location and a requester train retrieves materials as defined by a constant combinator. The schedules for all requester trains are the same regardless of what item/s are required. The central distribution fulfills orders based on a stored request against the train id when it arrives.

Inefficient but pleasently looking. Like. Videos like this remind me that there is another way to play Factorio other than what UPS-optimised bases propose, and yes this may not crank as much output, but it's very good looking instead.

Very nice work. Aspect ratio is good for the format. I believe you should turn off the alt view if you are posting a purely aesthetic design, imo it makes a big difference for the wow factor.

you can belt vehicles (cars, tanks) and transport items in their inventory for a very substantial throughput boost. you can load and unload them on the go, but routing them is a challenge, however.

A provider fills a belt and then sends out a 1 signal. At each intersection the signal is shifted left and sent straight and right. The right path has one added to it. A requester that receives a signal knows where it is from by the number. (eg. 10011 went start straight straight right right). The requester sends a response signal back. Each intersection on the path keeps a turn queue updated for the items that will be released. In the above example that means the 3rd intersection will add a queued right 3 periods from now and the 4th will queue a right 4 periods from now.
