Id like to know, in hind sight could you have avoided lengthening the drive shaft by fabricating a longer connection link at the fly wheel ? That seems like a great deal of work to make it fit and work ... Im going to guess that rebuilding the Onan would have been less work. WHat is astounding is that the 22HP Predator is actually 15% less displacement than the Onan P218.
@wacomellenbruch15232 жыл бұрын
You would have to figure exactly the right length for the adapter. The way I did it you can weld the drive shaft length after you install engine and then mark the drive shaft length. either way you should keep the shaft and the adapter straight and balanced to keep everything balanced.

Hey man, how's that motor working out for you?
@wacomellenbruch15232 жыл бұрын
Great, I installed two of them in 328s. I didn't really hae much to do to them after installation. I have since sold them both. I would recommend them.

I got dad's old John deere 318 to with single cylinder kawasaki 17hp which runs only it's gotta knock in it so I'm gonna have to repower it as well I was thinking either duromax 718cc or predator 670 or 420 for it
@REVNUMANEWBERN3 жыл бұрын
Did you have the shaft balanced? WHY didn't you use the crank shaft end??
@jjr8973 жыл бұрын
If he used the crankshaft end the trans whould spin the wrong way. That’s the way the 318 is set up. Needs the cooling fan from the engine to cool the transmission cooler. Look up the 318 setup u will understand.

You don't like John Deere tractors do ya? Just kidding. The 318 with the Predator looks new. Nice job on the engine swap.

I extended the wires long enough to reach the dash. I used the switch that comes with the Predator engine. Had to drill the hole a little bigger I think. I have another video of the engine swap that sows the wire extension.. It may help 11:36 NOW PLAYING Predator 670cc 22HP V-Twin Engine on my 318 John Deere

How do you rewire the factory wires to the 670cc motor .. I have the same motor from HF. And the 70.00 dollar shaft adaptors. ..

Funny you should say that. I was a night club country music singer. Retired now but the 80's was my best years. I still record at home and my mixed sound comes out like 80's.See some of my other videos, I build my own guitars. Thanks for the comment

@hudsonhawk00165 жыл бұрын
Nice conversion, but don't these engines have 3 bolts on the flywheel? How did you fabricate a two bolt driveshaft adapter to it?
@ayp19385 жыл бұрын
That motor runs about 700 bucks for a china engine for a few hundred more you could have got a Kohler command or a Briggs vanguard that will last alot longer
@hudsonhawk00165 жыл бұрын
More like $600 for the equivalent vanguard.
@joemendyk9994Ай бұрын

I have one of these engines in my golf cart and plan on swapping my engine in my 318 come winter. My only issue is can you still have your front hydrolics functioning with this engine?? Cause I'm throwing a ctc loader on my 318

How did you do the drive shaft set up? Was that due to the engine rotation?
@Abious5 жыл бұрын
How has the driveshaft held up? I'm doing a repower in my simplicity sunstar and I think I'll need to extend my driveshaft and I'm wondering how much balance comes into play.
@WacoJackofallTrades5 жыл бұрын
The drive shaft is holding up good. No problems. . On the John Deere the drive shaft is hollow. So you can extend it by putting a pipe around the outside or a solid rod on the inside. Either way it must me a good fit and on center. Or it will vibrate bad.
@REVNUMANEWBERN3 жыл бұрын
If youn do such see if a local automotive drive shaft company can balance it, if not it will gradually shake that engine apart
@anonjag5 жыл бұрын
The Predator engines are great, cheap to replace too, my sawmill has blown up 3 of them, good for about 5 years max, but at the price they are it doesn't take too much change to replace them, yea!they don't last thirty years like the original Onan did but who expected the sawmill to last longer than the motor it came with. If it came from China it would last as long as a Predator engine, but as they are throwaways and cheap, the replacement wouldn't hurt my wallet much.
@WacoJackofallTrades5 жыл бұрын
Thank You for this comment. Everyone is asking me how they are. I like them fine so far but I don't use them hard. So everyone: Here is your best comment
@anonjag5 жыл бұрын
My small engine mechanic says he can repair them, but the parts and labor would run pretty much equivalent to a new engine from Horror Freight, He used one for a Garden tractor pull unit but it grenaded before finishing, he laughs about how flimsy they are, he prefers old Kolhers for pullers, as they go more than one pull, LOL!, good thing Predators are cheap.

Yeah 3 years and still going strong. I have two of them. I will say they Idle kinda fluffy. But then you don't do much at an idle. They have power to spare for what I do. I do not mow with either of my 318s with predator engine. I have a video of one working arena with flat harrow. It is called John Deere 318 working arena. You can see it does it with ease. It is for sale now.
