I hadnt seen your channel before but as soon as I saw that bee sweater I know id seen it before. What a labor of love to replace that for your FIL, knowing it'd be a slog for you to re-do it but that you could give back something that the fire took from your family. I think most knitters know repeating a project sparks very little joy, and comes with that struggle of knowing whats ahead, like second sleeve syndrome for a whole sweater. The result is beautiful though, and that you got to apply some learned skills too? Perfection. Hope you have a wonderful new year!

I know you didn’t love it, but I think the variegated yarn was perfect with the Twill and Plain sweater! It reminds me of a Coogi sweater (in the best way)! 😊

The Ingrid sweater by PetiteKnit it is not a round yoke, it is a drop shoulder pattern.

@@aromanianknitterinnorway you're right, I misspoke about that! The one I was checking for scraps in the yoke is the Celeste and I forgot its name!

Seems like we have a super similar taste - I also love Over the Garden Wall (recognised your outro music immediately) and T. Kingfisher. I can really recommend "Thornhedge", it's super short but such a cozy read! Thanks for the nice podcast episode!

What a lovely video! Always like your calm and positive attitude :). Thank you so much for being so careful with Covid, anyone with vulnerable family members appreciates it. For the not-spoken-for yarn scraps that were donated to you, have you considered getting one of those circular beanie knitting machines? I haven't tried them myself, but heard that it's a good way to use up scraps because you can crank out soooo many hats in a day (and then potentially donate them). It must be frustrating to get given yarn you don't actually like that much when you're trying to keep your stash small! For the really small acrylic scraps, you could even consider making Preemie Octopus patterns and donating them to a hospital?

you are so kind! I do actually take covid tests and wear masks to work if I'm sick. I know it's a minority to behave that way nowadays! I am thinking of holding some scraps triple again with the white yarn and making more hats (I did one last December, I think it's in one of my earliest videos.) I also plan to knit for stillborns, but it's a little emotionally too close to what I went through with my pregnancy loss and I've been putting it off. Maybe I'll get there next year. Thank you for the ideas <3

Your knitting is beautiful! Losing a baby at any stage is heartbreaking, I too came home from the hospital with empty arms . My first son, Beau, died of a rare kidney disorder 45 years ago. I was happy to see you have made a blanket for your daughter, a very healthy way to cope with grief and process a loss. Just to forget and go on was our advice 45 years ago, it was just last year that a counselor suggested making a blanket in Beau’s memory. I am crocheting a large lap afghan for myself to help process things, it has helped immeasurably. I wish for you a healthy baby, I went on to have two. Bless you and your husband.

You are so kind Laura. Yes, they have gotten a lot better at offering help to bereaved parents nowadays. Thank you for sharing with me about Beau. It definitely is a lifelong grief. We are hopeful about having more children. Bless you, and I'm glad that you were also able to make a blanket.

I find the fit of a slip stitch heel flap and gusset is better than the short row heels or one's designed to look store-bought, so for gift knitting that's what I always stick to 😀
@Marisa-Knits Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I'll do a gusset for myself and see what I think!

Before the pandemic, I knit socks like it was my job. Probably have knit more than 100 pairs. I knit two lengths - for myself I knit socks about 1" higher than my Blundstone boots - my shoes of choice for Minnesota 9+ months out of the year; and than for my mom I knit socks higher up the calf, she likes them that way. She has much smaller feet than I do, so I can knit two pairs of socks from one 100g skein and one or two 20g minis. I almost exclusively knit my socks with contrast toes, heels and cuffs (I knit two at a time, toe up, for much the same reason you talked about when discussing your FiL's sleeves). Really love the thought surrounding the snowblowing hood as well. And now I want huge noise cancelling headphones for when I am out there!

You are so sweet! Thank you for sharing Celeste! I thought about two at a time for my sock year in 2024, I’m in love with them, but I really love my tiny 9 inch needle and making circles without switching needles so I think one at a time is faster for me

That bee sweater is fantastic! If it was me, I'd not do any more colour work, and then go for a colourful rub to finish off the body. Otherwise little beehives sound like a cute addition.
