What a misogynistic introduction. She’s a legend and has earned her place as one of the best songwriters and most relatable entertainers in the US. Her range is incredible and she’s created jobs for her local community.

Dolly wanted Loretta to know she was a coal miner’s daughter also…Dolly was always East Tennessee polite.

Dolly's dad never was a coal miner. First he worked as a sharecropper and later tending his own small tobacco farm and acreage. He also worked construction jobs to supplement the farm's small income.

She was criticized at the time for turning "pop." She is a LEGEND, and she won over the critics. She won CMA Entertainmer of the Year in 1978, one year after she debuted this single at the 1977 ceremony. That voice is as strong as ever. ❤❤❤

Mann and Weill were indeed pop composers. But she made it a crossover hit.

In baseball, they talk about five tool players. That’s Dolly. Of all her many talents, one thing I rarely hear mentioned is her pocket (sense of rhythm). It’s insanely good.

The beginning of superstardom. It's as if she knew, when she smiled and sang "and here I go!". Such a shrewd businesswoman, knowing her "brand" decades before people starting using that term. She had to crossover to pop to light the match, so to speak! Well played, Dolly. Well played.

Hi! How are you? Please, but I would really like to know where you found these excerpts taken from the DOLLY TV show? Well, I've been trying to find the complete episode 5 for years. Do you own this episode? I want to purchase it!

@matt27santos Hi, there! I’m great! How are you? I’m sorry, I unfortunately do not have the complete episodes. I just have these clips archived. I too am trying to collect her Variety Show footage from the one in Nashville from 1976-77, and the one in Cali (this one) from 1987-88. Do you have any complete episodes/footage/info? I too would like some info or to purchase some.

First time I heard Dolly Parton was in 1978, 12 years old. She performed, LIVE, on a Danish TeeVee-show, just Dolly and her guitar. Besides "Coat of many colours", we got "Jolene", on 33, 45, and 78 RPM. Followed by an interview, and MAN!! Dolly is just an amazing woman, isn't she??
