Dolly's dad never was a coal miner. First he worked as a sharecropper and later tending his own small tobacco farm and acreage. He also worked construction jobs to supplement the farm's small income.

The beginning of superstardom. It's as if she knew, when she smiled and sang "and here I go!". Such a shrewd businesswoman, knowing her "brand" decades before people starting using that term. She had to crossover to pop to light the match, so to speak! Well played, Dolly. Well played.

I too am trying to collect her Variety Show footage from the one in Nashville from 1976-77, and the one in Cali (this one) from 1987-88. Do you have any complete episodes/footage/info? First time I heard Dolly Parton was in 1978, 12 years old. She performed, LIVE, on a Danish TeeVee-show, just Dolly and her guitar. Besides "Coat of many colours", we got "Jolene", on 33, 45, and 78 RPM. Followed by an interview, and MAN!! Dolly is just an amazing woman, isn't she??
