Mum and Dad bought You're A Lady and I liked that a lot. But then I discovered this gem on the B-side and I still love playing it today. Brilliant.

That's interesting. I suspect that was the later re-release as the original1972 release had 'Manifesto' on the back. I think 'Too Much' was a 1975 song.

I am a Skellern addict, he was a very gifted musician. Everything I've read about him suggests he was a step out of time with his musical concepts. His collaborations with the likes of Mary Hopkin, Julian Lloyd-Webber et al to form the group Oasis were considered (not by me) to be 10-15 years too late, 'popular' (pop) music had moved to a different format. Those Oasis songs btw are to be found on KZbin. Enjoy.

@@hughvane I agree . I don't the timing is relevant. Peters songs were reinterpretation of songs from the 30s very often , and I think he was very much influenced by that period. My father was in his fifties when I was born and he used to play and sing songs from that era. I sang with him . ' The way how look tonight ' was a favourite of us both. Thus I think the out of date criticism is stupid, it was all , ' out of date ' . And wonderful for that reason. I love Peters songs and comedy very much . But I enjoyed the Beatles, Donovan and folk music too . I found the Oasis songs around the time of his death, and many more I hadn't heard , including the collaboration with Richard Stilgoe who my husband and I had followed in our 30s . . I hope you keep enjoying Peter now through KZbin and his Daughter Kate . Have you heard her ? . She sings songs from the 2nd world war . All the best K

The piano in this track is off the chain! I’ve discovered it on his 1972 album. At first it’s a bit annoying but then the piano gets into your head. Just read that he was a classically trained pianist. The arrangement is wonderful. No more comments?

This, and Alan Price's 'Just For You' are on equal footing for understated simplicity that simply communicates an era that had melody and romance without anything other than sheer talent to enthrall the listener. Beautiful!
