Really cool village, where do you get your snow from? And is it glued?
@timothycoughlan2467
@timothycoughlan2467 Ай бұрын
Snow is from Dept 56 and our local Menard’s store. It is not glued. Just sprinkled, and though I have a small tube connected to a vacuum to pick it up, it does get expensive to replace.

Thanx for your comments. Yes, I did build the table myself. It took me about 2 years on and off to complete the village. the legs and frame are made of pine 1 by 4's. The table top was made from 4' X 8' 2" thick styrofoam and I just cut holes in it for my house lights and street lights. Tim

Thanks, It took a couple years to build the tables and arch, sew the table skirt, do all the electrical for the train and lighting, and just the landscaping, not to mention the planning to utililize space as the table has 298 official lit houses, although I lit some on my own like the Tower bridge and some accessories with the string of Christmas lights dept 56 sells. It stays up all year.

Hi Timothy, beautiful village! Can you tell me what the name of the half timbered building is at 1:40 into the video next to the Brandon Mill? The one that looks like it is over water.

It’s been a few years, but I think I remember as I tried different methods. My table surface is made up of 2” thick Styrofoam insulation sheets that come in 4’ X 8’ sheets. Wherever there was water I took my foam cutter and gouged out small shallow chunks, and then I was going to put spray glue down, and stick Blue cellophane to it. I tested this method and found that the spray glue eats the Styrofoam so then I think I painted it with a coat of leftover latex wall paint, and then different shades of blue acrylic paint over that. Then I can’t remember if the spray glue worked OK on the latex/acrylic, or if I glued the cellophane with Modge Podge. I think I went with the Modge Podge. Then I put a soft towel over it, and a little weight on it until it dried. If you notice at the 1 minute mark on the video, the lights from the passing train made a nice ripple effect on the water surface area. Thanx

What an enchanting miniature community you’ve created! Can you please tell us where you acquired the brick road/walk ways?
@timothycoughlan2467

The Internet-I found brick and stone patterns and printed the style and color I liked. Then after realizing how many ink cartridges, I would be going through, I took it to a local mail/print shop and had 500 copies made much more economically. Then I cut and glued them down to the foam base with Modge Podge.

Oh, this is successful. Since a couple of years I watch christmas and winter dioramas. And the most of the american are overloaded and absurd thememixed. And above all colorful. But not this one. You made a fantastic, nearly lifelike display with a very romantic touch in european style. I like this. Thanks for showing.

Not really? They seem glued pretty well. If it was me and I was willing to take a chance, I would see if I could slip a single edged razor under the plastic bottom plate to see if I could separate the glue that holds it. You'd have to be very careful not to break anything or cut yourself.
