ik im soo late but omg i talked to this guy named ty (tyrin) who used this famous guy’s pictures and he would change where he was from, say he was coming to see me in the summer, would make up elaborate stories as excuses, AND he would send me paragraphs when I would pull back. This is crazy 😭

i unfortunately used to be one of those people who catfished, i don’t know what made me do this, it started off innocently and i didn’t mean to create any connections with anybody until i met this person who made me feel safe, i impulsively sent a fake picture and created a fake name i didn’t think we would be friends i just wanted to experience some validation, things developed into a stronger connection and i got scared to tell them i wasn’t actually real so i let it drag for so long and it ended up hurting her in the end when she found out the whole truth, i would fake a lot of things for attention because i didn’t get any irl, i am actively working on myself now and hope she’s okay. i learnt the hard way, i became extremely illduring the whole process, i didn’t want to keep faking it, i felt trapped in some obsession with living a fake reality and not letting her find out /avoiding making her traumatized, i thought the only way out was disappearing without any closure to not cause distress on her, but the guilt ate me alive every day. i never had ill intentions, i just feel like a horrible person because i let her waste years on somebody who wasn’t even real. till today, this is the thing that i regret most in my entire life, i don’t ever want to make someone go through this again. if somebody has ever catfished you with no intention of getting money or sexual pictures they are probably going through something dark irl and not necessarily trying to use you or hurt you, but you deserve more empathy than these people, you were the one who was deceived. i am so sorry this has happened to you.
