This is SOOO helpful. I guess it's going to be too much work for me to do. Also, I really hoped it would be a touchscreen. Could I buy a whole separate unit and add it on top, or is that insane? haha

Thanks for this, I will NOT be buying the NAVIKS unit knowing the touch screen doesn't work. F that. Naviks website says the touchscreen works with this... misleading and false advertisement.

Something I noticed you've got that drove me crazy was the constant beep while in reverse-- the dealer can set it to a single beep when you first shift and then it's silent. Much less obnoxious! I saw you said you replaced the entire head unit with a newer model, but as far as I can see there's no 11.6" screen that supports carplay/android auto from any year. Did you end up going to a smaller screen from a newer year?

You said you changed the head unit on a different car? Do you mean another Prius prime? Can you make a video showing the installation of the head unit and showing how Apple CarPlay functions?

So I have removed this Naviks and replaced the head unit with a 2021 prius prime head-unit. I was able to find one from a scrap yard. Its more expensive but works perfectly. The instillation was simple as well compared to this. I'll try to get another video together with the updated system.

I eneded up replacing the entire headunit with a newer prius prime model. It was more expensive, but is a much better experience. The naviks it too expensive at $500, but the replacement headunit cost me $1000 from a salvage yard, so even more expensive.

Firstly, thank you sooo much for making this video! I think it is great and much better than not having Apple Carplay at all! I am going to try and install it in our 017 Prime Premium. Can I ask if you are using it wired or wireless with your iPhone?

feel around behind the back of the console you will feel the sd card back there press in once it will pop out then put your new one in.

I wanted to record a install video, but the camera stopped recording at the start, and I did not want to pull everything out again. Its not too difficult compared to most head unit installs. Clips at the top pull out a plastic guard. Then there are 2 bolts that essentially remove the entire screen with the power button and parts of the dash. They all come out together with clips. The adapter itself is basically a bypass, so you unplug a connection, plug it into the Y cable and then plug that back in. I did run the joystick control through my center console, but even that was mostly just pulling out clips.

Mine was $550 I think. There is another version that has a HDMI connection I believe for $750. The default one does not allow you to watch any videos. Apple Car Play itself I believe restricts those apps from showing. The HDMI version would let you hook up your own source and watch something if its safe to do so.
