Bob Hannah was my hero when I was young and rode motocross. I went through 3 YZ 125s. 77,78,and 79 models. Other interests convinced me to stop riding. Women and flying aircraft.

This track was the premier track in America before they took a bulldozer to it and ruined it. They changed the start, they changed the track and all of the changes were for the worse. Trying to make it into an outdoor sx track which it will never be. Such a shame!

I was there. What a race. Hannah passed Johnny at the bottom of screw U and emerged with both hands in the air. Johnny had the overall in the bag until he ran out of gas.

I’ve a fan of Bob Hannah since 1976. I met him in 1983 at the Millville national which was the first national I ever saw and it is the best race I’ve seen. The battle between David Bailey and Bob Hannah was incredible. Bob rode the whole track and I nearly got taken out by his handlebars along the snow fence. I met many greats that day, Chandler. O’mara, Bailey, Lechein and more. I still have there autographed posters. Great era in motocross😊!

Love the rough track! So much gnarlier than the groomed tracks of today. The uphill sections got rougher every year. They wouldn’t groom it, they just installed new ribbon and let ‘em rip!

Watching the fans mob Hannah after the second moto was a touching sight. We don't see that anymore these days. I was there that day which was also my very first time at Unadilla, but was on the far side of the track so I wasn't near the finish line straight to witness this sight. I remember thinking about this race for days after it was run. Great memories.

This was my very first trip to Unadilla, given the fact that I was coming from Massachusetts. I remember being on the far side of the track just under the pizza stand when the gate dropped for the first qualifier. I remember seeing Rick Ryan's day-glow green chest protector through all the morning fog as he railed around the only tree on the course after his holeshot. I was sixteen years old, and I never felt more alive as I did at that very moment. I was a HUGE motocross fan, and I was a walking encyclopedia because I knew everything there was to know about the sport. My Unadilla experience changed me for life as I never participated in that level of partying before. I showed up on Saturday morning and stayed the weekend on top of the far hill. Back then, they would do a half-assed search of your car for booze and whatever else that was forbidden. We pulled a trick where we emptied out our water bottles and put our vodka in them, and filled the vodka bottles with water. They immediately grabbed the vodka bottles and let us in. My friends stashed their weed in the air filter of the car. Mission accomplished. The rest was history and was the best weekend in my entire life. Now Unadilla is like going to church. Such a shame.

I was watching Hannah's rear suspension that was designed by Eyvind Boyesen. As complicated as it looked, it provided incredibly smooth action. Compared to O'Mara's bike Hannah's suspension seemed smoother, but Johnny was just too damned fast and in shape for Hannah to be competitive with him.

I watched THE HURRICANE WIN THE 1977 Seattle Supercross on a Stock YZ250D. Yes riding against all the Works bikes. He was THAT GOOD! After the race they raffled off the bike. Dad and I did NOT have winning tickets. He was My and friend Kevin Cornett's (a fellow YZ 125 Expert class rider) HERO. Kevin even road in Scott boots like Bob did. I stuck to Leather.. We had our yellow hemets all Lightning Bolted up like his. Kevin was #2 like Bob. I was #14. Bob and Marty Smith before him definitely helped America take Motocross away from the Europeans. I also remember the Ski accident and he as many do not... never road the samee again. What a TIME IN MOTOCROSS HIStory!

You gotta be in it - to win it....Hannah lost a few the same way, it all balanced out in the end. Hannah spanked O'Show a few times in SX when they were both on Hondas...

If O'Mara just tipped his bike and let the gas from the right side of the tank get to the fuel petcock I think he would have had enough to finish. Unfortunately we'll never know.

Although I hate them personally, I couldn't help but think about how well a four stroke would hook up on this deep, tacky loam. Seems like there's a lot of wasted wheelspin on the two strokes.

Look at that dirt! I was there that day and the racing was awesome. Long gone are those days when the competition was vicious. Every rider fought tooth and nail for every position. Nothing like these days where guys settle in their positions then just circulate. The state of racing now is just plain sad. Everyone is just trying to collect a check and say "I'll get them next year."

This track was so much more technical when Ward Robinson owned it look at that up hill off camber knarly whoops an turning to the right just a fight all the way look at the washboard all the way into the turn...what got destroyed today versus then was they raced on it and did no grooming they let the grass grow and let it to the snow an new york winter taking out 60 percent of the natural difficulty now its just drag racing nothing technical about it what a dog bob suzuki was u can see how slow itwas to johnny s factory honda....johnny was the best 125 rider on earth...so was bob thats what makes this race so important an memorable...they race different eras though
