Love this conversation! I apply it to agriculture and waste. It makes me so angry to think that we as a society are throwing away our food waste into the landfill! Or anything to the landfill for that matter. Nothing is waste in Gods creation. I think the key will be fermentation to systematic waste systems. Natures preservative!!
@TheSchoolhouseLife3 ай бұрын
Yes. Food waste always seems like such a waste 😊. We have a huge black soldier fly bin that we put a bunch of waste into. Just think if every neighborhood had one.

As a follower of the feasts and a homesteader it’s amazing to see others doing this!! We teach on His calendar and how it applies to us.

My soul does magnify the Lord. Mary said that. In farming the opportunities to magnify the Lord are astonishing.

Hi Friends! I love this conversation it’s beautiful thank you! I live on a Food forest so I completely relate to what you are saying about nature I definitely struggle with community also but I find my community in my food forest. There are birds and bunnies and all kinds of wildlife, fungi trees, flowers, and so much love.
@TheSchoolhouseLife3 ай бұрын
That’s very true! I do think there’s a community on our property and knowing those members is so important. Especially when you are making decisions about what to do and such.

Interesting topic, for sure. As someone who is not "religious", per se, I can certainly attest to the fact that there is something inherently tangible and spiritually fulfilling from tilling the land and animal husbandry. It is both healing and being healed. For me, there has been no greater reward that I have received from any endeavor or experience (short of raising my sons) than that of farming. It is truly a spiritual connection between our souls and Nature/God. Thanks for sharing! -Dusty

So funny. I normally listen to various people I follow on youtube while working after school, or driving. I don't usually listen to podcasts because I don't do apps. However, you posted a link on FB to this podcast. I saw it on my phone, clicked on it, and it came up without me having to have an app. So, I kept it up on my phone to listen to on the way to work. I had to come check out the angle you were talking about Lacey - you look beautiful!

I have a fern in my west facing front side of the house. I did a lot of research and discovered that the NC Sheild Fern would be the most likely able to take the heat / sun. We got it from Plant Delights Nursery. Probably a two hour drive for you, but I highly suggest visiting. You guys would love it. Their plants are expensive, but worth it. I planted a miniature crepe myrtle in front of the fern and have added a Peony , blue berry bushes, and elephant ears around it. So, it does get shade. Plus it is near the house wall. If you decide to buy a fern, you might want to try the NC Shield Fern. It has survived 4 or 5 years now in an area we used to call the death bed because every plant we tried died. Most are doing well there now. Just had to buy the right ones!

Sounds like you guys are embracing my gardening philosophy of it shouldn't take hardly any work. Plant it. Harvest it. That is all I care to do! God makes it all work in the forests, woods, prairies, etc without any input from us.
@TheSchoolhouseLife4 ай бұрын
yes! its been a philosophy for a while but we are also adding in more water and planning for success. plants are too expensive to just hope for the best...haha

Is it okay to wash the grapes first, or does that remove the natural yeast? I want to try this but I would be getting grapes from the grocery store. Thanks!
@TheSchoolhouseLife2 ай бұрын
I wouldn't use grocery store grapes--so many chemicals, even if they were grown organically they're often sprayed when they arrive at the store. Might be better to find a local grape grower you trust!

Great series on wild fermented wine. This kitchen aid attachment looks just like an industrial juicer. Do you recon I could use that instead of purchasing the additional attachments for my mixer?
@TheSchoolhouseLife2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. as long as it gets all the skin and seeds out you should be good. just remember you want some of the grape skins because they have the wild yeast on them.

@TheSchoolhouseLife3 жыл бұрын
Yes. So lay out the markers and then that will be your contour line. Dig the line and put your dirt on the downhill side of the swale. What would you like to see for follow up? I did make one that shows how we use a BCS to dig the line.
