The same here. Comets take a long time to stack. I just settled for a 2 minute single exposure.
@jeffballphotoАй бұрын
I could never get my tif converted to fit to stack correctly in PI or Siril. I gave up and went with a global stack. The comet really needs focal length to get the details and anti-tail. I like the captures with the Milky Way I am starting to see.

Not a very dark location but a very nice setting never the less.

Thanks for watching. Part of the intent was to show how bright the comet was from in the city. I did not have time to go to a dark sky site. I have so much material to process, I will never get it done from the last dark sky visit and aurora. Take care.

Which one do you recommended? canon 15x50 or 18x50? Thank you
@jeffballphoto4 ай бұрын
If you wanted to do more lunar observing vs deep Sky, the 18x will give a bit more resolution at the expense of a smaller exit pupil. If you want to do more deep space, I think the exit pupil with the 15x is a better choice. I went with the 15x as a compromise for deep sky as well as lunar. Good luck and clear skies.

This was eye opening for me. Its a beautiful spot for the star party, no doubt. I'm an OG, and the most significant changes i notice is that people have moved away from the large dobs that dominated star parties in the 80's and 90's when I was going to them all the time. My 18" dob was a moderately large 'scope, in a field which frequently had up to 30" 'scopes. I want to come to the next one, hope I can make it. I'll bring my 12" if I do.
@jeffballphoto4 ай бұрын
Thank you. I know there were a few big dobs, I think at least one 18”. But the smart scopes are really prevalent in astronomy. Many times supplementing a visual setup. I may get to Oki-Tex this year. I’ll do a big dob count if I do. I will take note of the dobs at the upcoming almost heaven star party.

Nice video. At about 5:45, you mentioned typically the type of clouds you were seeing would fade away at night. What do you look for to identify clouds that may fade away at night vs ones that may not? Thanks
@jeffballphoto4 ай бұрын
Thank you. To be honest, I was wrong about those clouds lol. They just hung in the valley until about midnight. That is what the forecasts were calling for. Eventually, the wind came up a bit and the sky cleared for about 3 hours.

with my Quark I cannot use the same camera gain for the sunspots and prominences. I need low gain for sunspots and high gain for proms, and with the high gain surface detail is completely overexposed. What am I doing wrong?

You’re doing nothing wrong. That is the large dynamic range from the chromosphere to the prominences. You can two properly exposures and layer them together or stretch the lower exposed with a photoshop mask. Keep enjoying your quark.

Wow that Baader is BAD with the halos. I thought my Optolong 3nm OIII was bad. Congrats on the two AP telescopes. My name came up 15 years ago, for the 130, but I hadn't updated my info with them, so never got the call, which was probably a good thing. After going through a divorce, there was no way I could have purchased it. But I talked to Roland and he recommended Telescope Engineering, so I bought their 160FL. I'm still on the waitlist for AP's 160 or 155, but Roland pretty much indicated he didn't think they'd ever get any more 6" blanks to produce any more of those. I've been on the list for 22 years now! LOL
