I purchased one from Arms & Armor over 20 years ago and i still have it. I have heard other experts claim it's a bastard sword.

I was bummed to see the scallop wasn't listed this morning. Was that an error or did someone swoop it up before the sale?

The "French sword" (3rd in the line-up) looks really nice. I would personally go for an Italian look and a German style as a second choice. But the disc pommel on the "French sword" looks good. It has some subtle geometry to it, and it's more flat than I would have thought.

We are told not to keep swords and axes on their leather sheaths. Where is it advisable to keep them? I guess that a cardboard sheath is even worse than leather because it will retain more humidity. Plastic then? A box?

Interesting point about using a peen block. Do you guys do a lot of rehiltings? Do we get one mulligan if we change our mind after receiving the sword and want to change the grip shape lol?
@smokerxluffy8 күн бұрын
Gorgeous sword. One of the first longswords I bought was the Windlass replica of this sword and it's kind of hilarious; they must have gotten the dimensions wrong, like squishing up an image in MS Paint, because it's way too short and stubby, so it behaves in a very interesting (not particularly good) way in the hand.

A difference that I notice is that the handle riser is much closer to the hilt in the reproduction, The handle shape is also a bit different.
@fettmaneiii44398 күн бұрын
Looks like your dimesion for the grip is off, looks like the riser swell was placed too high, the original had one full hand in there, this one looks like it came up short. awesome job on everything else!
@armsarmorinc.41538 күн бұрын
The grips on original swords were also adapted to their users. What worked great for one person might need to be tweaked to the preferences of another. Another interesting thing, that sword was probably regrouped during its use life. The owner may well have experimented with different shapes and sizes..
@armsarmorinc.41538 күн бұрын
This is actually one of the reasons why we use pommel nuts whenever we can on our swords. When you buy a piece and use it, you may want to change it later.
@mementomori49728 күн бұрын
It's kind of funny how you demonstrate and praise the benefit of the grip shape on the original, and throw that completely over board on the reproduction, by making something that just somehow looks like it the original but doesn't have the same functionality.
@fettmaneiii44398 күн бұрын
lol I was just posting this! I think it's probably a simple error in hand-making on this individual sword. Trying to be generous with the assessment while also speaking the truth.

It's one of the benefits of the fact that every single piece is handmade, we can craft them to the desires of the client, including their hand size and preference if it's important to them.
@cfengelhardt8 күн бұрын
Was the guard of the original gilded? It kinda looking like that in some of the shots.
@armsarmorinc.41538 күн бұрын
No, there's no evidence of gilding on this sword, and I'd be quite surprised if it ever were. This is really a weapon of war more than the counts showpiece.

If you use a dagger in armour, your likely not using it the same as without Armour. Your likely wrestling, trying to jab the point in to a the mail, then pushing through, apposed to swing stabbing.
