That bridge really should have its middle span replaced with a lifting span. Ditto for the footbridge alongside it. And the same for several other bridges along the lower Bann. It would then be possible for high masted sailboats from the ocean to make it as far as Lough Neagh. Obviously this will never happen, N.I. is bottom rung usually on the government's list of money allocation priorities, and we are in a recession. But it would be a nice idea.

Im suprised it wasnt built with a bascule or swing span back in the day like many other older bridges on the bann at that time all removed now sadly wont be happening now for sure

Cheers sir that was a long time ago on my files as lifetime they don't to it like that anymore they have a static compactor on which a truck hooks up to and takes it to landfill.

I mind it they dug round it below street level then cut it just below the surface and filled it up would cost to much to completely dig it away.
