This was a great activity for a shortened class period and to talk about Veterans Day and why we celebrate it. The video aspect of the questions kept them engaged and excited. 7th graders always love a competition!

Hi Amanda! I love this program. Of course, I have heard of it before, but I haven't yet committed to it. Here's my question: I teach using class novels, poetry, and short stories, so I'm wondering if teachers who do First Chapter Fridays also have a class novel going? Maybe it's just a totally separate thing that will encourage readers to read outside of class, during free time, in Media?? Did I just answer my own question?
@AmandaZiebatheWordNerd3 ай бұрын
The amazing thing about First Chapter Fridays is there are so many ways to do/implement them! You don't even have to do it on a Friday, lol. In this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYu8i4B7Zqdkqdk) I give 20 different ways to implement it (including whole class, individual, in-person, online, etc. applications). Per your specific question, maybe you just take a break from your class read aloud novel on Fridays and instead use your read aloud time for a FCF?!?!? Maybe experiment and see what works best for you! Good luck and happy reading! :)

I worked in dog sled racing and it gets incredibly ugly. If i made a dog sled racing trivia game it wouldn't take much effort to make it grim.

Ugh. I knew it was a very physically demanding competition for both the dogs and the humans, but I'm really sorry to hear that it moves beyond challenging to ugly. My channel is primarily used by middle school classrooms and students so thanks for holding details back. Glad you stopped by!

Lol yea sorry to be the bearer of bad news. There are probably alot of fun vocabulary words on the "International Sled Dog Veterinary Medical Association" research articles page. For example there is one article called "Temporal relationship between gastrointestinal protein loss, gastric ulceration or erosion, and strenuous exercise in racing Alaskan sled dogs" So many new vocabulary words just in that one title! But in all serious thanks for being a teacher and thanks for hearing me out. @@AmandaZiebatheWordNerd

@@AmandaZiebatheWordNerd So sorry to get back to you late. One that actually works really well for me without making me lose focus is similar to your literature leg raises. Basically, I just lie down on my back and instead of raising both legs, I lift only one leg (extended) and keep it in the air. Not too high from the floor, only a few inches and keep it up from touching the floor as long as I can.

This was a great video but do you think if it wasn't too much to ask to make a audio of you reading this book? I have dyslexia, so it would be really helpful for kids. Or just people in general that I want to read this book to have an audio version.

Hey! Thanks so much for listening! I am really glad you liked this video. Part of the reason I only share the first chapter is so that I don't break any copyright rules or infringe on the original creator's rights to the work. This is just meant to get you started. But I can appreciate where you are coming from. Here is a link to the full audio book you can purchase from Audible if you'd like to listen to the story. Hi! I’m a middle school English teacher and have started doing my own First Chapter Fridays in my classroom. I am thinking of making videos similar to yours. How do you avoid copyright issues and ensure your work falls under fair use guidelines? Thanks in advance for any advice!
@AmandaZiebatheWordNerd Жыл бұрын
Hey Tim. Forgive my delayed reply. I rarely check my comments because kids don’t usually leave them, lol. So according copyright law you are allowed to share up to 10% of a piece as long as you… don’t replace the original work and/or disparage and/or discourage use of the original work. Usually publishers and authors are thrilled I am highlighting and promoting their book. They often send me free ARCs and agree to interviews! If you have any more questions, feel free to email me at word word [email protected]. Have fun and good luck!!
@deedeewebb Жыл бұрын
Hello Amanda? Do you know if your videos are age restricted? I'm having trouble playing it in a Google Slide and was just curious since I'm using my school Google Account to try and play your videos. Thanks.
@AmandaZiebatheWordNerd Жыл бұрын
Hi! So if the book is considered MG (middle grade) I mark it as “for kids” but if the book is YA or geared for a teen audience I do not put an age restriction on it. The Hunger Games falls into that second category so when asked, “is this video made for kids?” I clicked no. Does that make sense? I hope you can still figure out a way to use this. If you get stuck feel free to email me and maybe we can work something out. Sending you good tech vibes! ([email protected])
