Fun context: With a 1 in 4 chance of losing your turn each turn, the odds of being fully paralyzed 7 turns in a row are 1 in 16,384. Twice as rare as finding a full-odds shiny in Unova!

There's a FireRed patch that gives you some quality of life enhancements for Ironmon (marks hidden items on the screen, speeds up the Oak's Parcel quest at the start, skips the catching tutorial, adds the healer in Viridian Forest, etc.) I don't know if I'm technically allowed to share roms/patches, but if you google "faster firered ironmon" or something along those lines, it should come up for you.

It's just FireRed with a randomizer applied so that all Pokemon, Trainer battles, items on the ground, movesets, etc. are randomized. Opposing trainers also have a 50% level boost, and there are a bunch of other rules (the ruleset I use is here, if you are curious: gist.github.com/valiant-code/adb18d248fa0fae7da6b639e2ee8f9c1)

It's standard to use rare candies and a level cap in challenge runs where grinding adds no difficulty to the challenge. Obviously if it affects the challenge in some way (ie. a no pokemon centre run, where you need to carefully manage PP), then no candies. If you already knew that and just don't like it, I mean, that's okay. But I'll approach the challenge in the way I feel is fair and fun, and it's okay if we disagree.

Fun fact: If you consider the lore we learn in both Unova and Hoenn... Giovanni was *supposed* to be champion! If he hadn't gone off to focus all his attention on Team Rocket in his quest to become the strongest [with big implications that involves Mewtwo; or finding something as strong as Mewtwo]; when Kanto's previous champion [strongly implied to be Oak based on his and Agatha's statements, and the dummied out Oak postgame fight; as well as Kukui being the placeholder champion in Alola] retired, leaving the position vacant, the position of champion is offered to the *strongest Gym Leader* . Who was Giovanni. Who was MiA. We know the position was vacant because if at the start of the game you look at a pc in Oak's lab, you can see an e-mail about it from Lance!

@@VCreateYT The irony was if Giovanni had kept legitimate, and focused on being a Gym leader; he would have been promoted to Champion like Wallace and Iris and been recognized as The Strongest like he wanted.

The only characters that managed to defeat the champions that aren't the protagonist where wild borned, humans that growed with pokemons for their whole life, Zinnia defeated Steven and N defeated Alder.. They have an eternal link with their friends and consider them as allies On the other hand Giovanni consider them objects to make money.. Giovanni **CAN'T** be a champion

Nice video, for the next one I recommend the same stipulation for FireRed, I think it's gonna be pretty challenging considering early game poison risk at Viridian Forest.

I'll put it on my list of runs to do! I liked the challenge of having to play with PP restricted, since in a normal run it is so rare that it actually matters, and also having to carefully consider what Pokemon I catch since you can't use a PC. So it's definitely something I want to try again in a different game! Glad you enjoyed it :)

35:12 not only does Gyarados have bad special attack (60), but the defending Gyarados has good special defense (100) and HP (95). Gyarados is a beast in every aspect....... Except special attack! (125 attack, a not-too bad speed of 81, and intimidate to take care of its 79 defense.) Before the physical-special split, it really suffered from this, due to some of its best moves being special (crunch and waterfall)

It's surprising how many good special moves it can learn but just not make any use of! Definitely a Pokemon that benefitted a lot from the physical/special split especially being able to get a physical water STAB
