Theres one skill that is the most difficult for those that dont have time ON ropes (Icluding Instructors) and that is climbing a rope. That system youre teaching, trying to get someone whos never climbed a rope before, and add to it, theyve fallen out of a Basket so have had a harness tighten up on their body, theyre bruised, muscles in pain and highly likely, out of shape with no muscle memory on how to climb a rope...there isnt anychance they will climb that rope. I would sooner send down a pulley rigged as a 2:1 through a Progress Capture Device at the bucket. Send the haul line to them and instead of climbing, they pull on the haul line and slowly move up. Send a 4:1 if you think a 2:1 isnt going to work. Benefits of this is there is no possibility of them falling again, the system is always under tension. Unlike the climbing system youre teaching which relies on the person being able to remain upright. Like I say, they are already in pain, out of shape and you expect them to climb a rope...not happening safely.

Its "funny" (really not) how many people are arguing with a literal DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION on how zipper merging is worst than waiting in a long ass line. Your anecdontal expierience (not evidence) doesnt trump the governing body who's whole existance is dedicated to our roadways. But what do i know? I only got a perfect score on both my wrtten and driving test 15 years ago, on the first try, after paying out of pocket for private drivers ed. We really need to bring drivers education back into highschools, for free.

There is one caveat to keep in mind. In many states the DOT or Highway Dept. will place signs that ask you to zipper merge. So drivers think they are entitled to a merge at the merge point. But when an accident happens they discover that the ending lane is still legally considered as the one that merges, NOT the thru lane. So therefore the ending lanes drivers are automatically liable for a safe and proper merge and usually found to be at fault. Some States are revising their laws to reflect a shared liability. But it is not nearly Nationwide yet. Until then, the thru lane drivers do not usually owe you a merge as the zipper implies, so dont get cocky.

The zipper merge just turns one long line into two short ones. But it is still the same amount of cars that pass thru the obstruction, so it does not save time. Also drivers hop from one lane to the other back and forth trying to get ahead. They could not do this if the cars were in one long line. But the long single line can block ramps.

Study after study shows cables work as well as steel, are more visually appealing and easier on the environment. We need legislation mandating these across all highways TO SAVE LIVES.

These are HORRIBLE! They put in a couple near where I live (Optimist Club Rd. and St. James Church Rd. along NC-16) and accidents are WAY up! They gave up and put in lights at Optimist Club Rd., but WHY is NC continuing to build these hazards to navigation???

Wish Pine City would pay farmers to leave a couple of rows in fields to block snow onto St Criox Road, that runs east to west.

DOT and Highway Dept. promote use of the zipper merge. Which really is the best way to move traffic. But most traffic laws still state that the ending lane is the only lane that actually merges. NOT the thru lane. So therefore the actual merging drivers bear the full legal liability for a safe and proper merge. And when an accident or citation is contested the law is usually obligated to side against the merging driver. Some areas are playing catch-up by revising their laws to mandate zipper merges and shared liability. But it is still rare.

That's fine. What baffles me is when there is no traffic and the exit is literally right there, but the car behind me just cannot wait 2 more seconds so goes around me and cuts in front, barely making the exit... only for me to drive up right beside him at the light. CONGRATS! You made it a WHOLE care length ahead! I am sure your parents will be proud!

0:11 Love watching these bridges get constructed. The new technology has made it go faster! Where did you construct the "pre-constructed bridge"? How did you get it to the location (along the highway??)..love to see a video of the transporting it from the manufacturing site to the construction area!
