Darkpaw just recently released the soundtrack to the newest expansion, Laurion's Song, on Amazon Music, Spotify, etc. Which is a step in the right direction, but to my knowledge that is the only expansion they've done that for. Hopefully they start releasing others!

Aside from Planes of Power, this is the best one for me. The most unique. Some really great, bizarre tracks in here. Uniqueness is something I have really begun to appreciate. There are plenty of objectively "good" soundtracks out there, most games these days are professionally orchestrated and composed, after all. A truly unique soundtrack is much rarer. My favorites would be the Mechromatic Guardian (especially the weird Aphex Twin parts near the end), the S.H.I.P. workshop, and (of course) the Steam Factory.

Once again, thank you for your work putting together this channel, Reddhawk! Maybe it’s because I’ve ended up spending so much time there, but I’ve become pretty fond of the Crescent’s Reach music. The credits for The Serpent’s Spine do not specifically list the music composer, but instead the whole audio team, many of whom worked on music and audio for other Everquest and Everquest 2 expansions: -Audio Director: Glenn Stafford (also famous for his work with Blizzard) -Project Manager: Joy Kosenski, Glenn Snyder -Sound Design Lead: Cat Neri -Sound Designer: Chadwick Mossholder -Voice Integration Specialist: Fryda Wolff One small note, for the Mines of Gloomingdeep track, the music that’s playing in the video isn’t the current zone music. It took some digging, but the song that currently plays in the Mines is called “mx_tutorialb.mp3” in the game files. Not very intuitive, I’ll admit. Also, I think a strong case could be made that the Mines of Gloomingdeep music should actually go in an earlier expansion’s soundtrack. Given how smoothly the tutorial rolls into Crescent Reach, it was definitely logical to put it here, but as I dug into the old patch history, I discovered that the Mines of Gloomingdeep were actually added initially on May 26, 2004: everquest.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=3570 . They then received a revamp about a year later on Jun 29, 2005 (at which point I believe they largely became the way we know them today): everquest.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=5781 Was the current Mines of Gloomingdeep music present when the zone was initially added, during the Gates of Discord era, or was it added as part of the revamp during Dragons of Norrath? Who was it composed by? There’s probably no easy way for us to find out, but since it doesn’t sound to my admittedly amateur ear like the work of the Gates of Discord composers (Paul Romero and Robert King), I would suggest including it with Dragons of Norrath (for whatever my two cents are worth). Again, thank you for the tremendous work you’ve put into this!

Once again, thank you for your work putting together this channel, Reddhawk! With the previous five expansions’ music being composed by Paul Romero and Robert King, Dragons of Norrath marks the return to in-house music composition for the first time in over three years, since Shadows of Luclin (the music for which was accidentally hidden for a decade and a half). The credits for Dragons of Norrath do not specifically list the music composer, but instead the whole audio team, many of whom continued to work on music and audio for Everquest and Everquest 2: -Audio Director: Heather Sowards -Audio Lead: Michael Smith -Sound Design: Chad Mossholder, Cat Neri One tiny issue I noticed in the video was during the opening title card, it shows “Omens of War Soundtrack”, vice Dragons of Norrath. Also, I think a strong case can be made to add one additional track to this soundtrack. Looking ahead, I see that you included Mines of Gloomingdeep music with The Serpent’s Spine soundtrack. Given how smoothly the tutorial rolls into Crescent Reach, that’s definitely a logical place to put it, but as I dug into the old patch history, I discovered that the Mines of Gloomingdeep were actually added initially on May 26, 2004: everquest.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=3570 . I just learned an amusing fact about the Mines of Gloomingdeep. In an interview from 2020, former Everquest Lead Designer Ryan Barker mentioned that he actually designed the zone, and it was based off the first adventure of a D&D campaign he was playing in. As ever, thank you for your work putting together this channel, Reddhawk! Like many of my Everquest friends at the time, even though I was still playing the game when Gates of Discord released in September ‘04, I never actually bought the expansion, since I knew I’d be leaving for EQ2 when it released in November. Also like many people, I ended up quickly leaving EQ2 for World of Warcraft when it released a few weeks after that. All of which is to say, this is my first time hearing the Omens of War soundtrack. The composers for Omens of War were Paul Romero and Robert King, who composed the music for four other expansions (Planes of Power, Legacy of Ykesha, Lost Dungeons of Norrath, and Gates of Discord). Omens of War was the last EQ expansion they composed music for. Paul and Rob were actually interviewed a couple years ago for the short-lived, though excellent, The Everquest Show: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGHakntmp9ijmdk
