Byline Translation: Thanks to European funds, road transport has been greatly improved. Thousands of miles of roads have been built and upgraded. The funds also take care of air transport. But how do we reconcile increasing air traffic with minimizing its negative impact on the environment? The answer may be the use of incremental technologies in the design and manufacture of aircraft parts. They are commonly called 3D printing. This solution was developed by a consortium consisting of GE Aerospace (Poland), global leader in the design and production of aircraft engines, and the Łukasiewicz Institute of Aviation Research Network, experts in the development of aviation, space and unmanned technologies. The European-funded project "Development and implementation of an innovative design service for turbojet engines using incremental technologies and advanced cooling methods" resulted in innovation on a global scale: the development of 3D printing process parameters and the creation of the MEWA Toolkit application. 3D printing perfectly responds to the biggest challenges faced by the designers of aircraft engines. Parts of an engine with the most complex shape can be designed and manufactured. In conventional technologies, the derivative is a lot of waste material. The use of incremental methods significantly reduces - often eliminates - their production. Incremental technologies are the answer to the challenges facing the aviation industry. A flexible approach and innovation can achieve better results and reduce the negative impact on the environment.

CC Translation: Recent trends in aircraft engine design require engineers to find innovative methods and production technologies. Thanks to European funds, we had the opportunity to implement a project aimed at developing additive technologies. In our program, using European funds, we worked on designing new parameters for INCONEL 718 materials. For this purpose, we printed and tested over 3,000 samples. The samples were tested for metallography, quality of geometry reproduction, as well as material strength. We managed to shorten the design process itself significantly thanks to innovative programming tools that support engineers at virtually every stage of design. The experience from the project was used to prepare a design procedure that standardizes the design of a stable process window and defines the methodology of sample testing, as well as the process of selecting the best materials. These tools allowed us to shorten the design process by over 80 percent. The use of modern technologies allows for the design of more efficient and ecological engines, which is an important aspect in aviation technology.
