I had to stop listening. The music was so irritating. Why do so many good You Tube commentaries have music over talking?

This instruction video, though relatively old, is remarkably well done, showing three different aspects of the transition plus common mistakes.

I tried this. Eventually the attachment point in the harness snapped. Almost lost my kite, saved due to some friends who were quick to help recover it before it reached the bushes. This was with Ion CS Hadlow Harness, 2018 model, which I purchased new less than a year ago. While I got "warranty" (unfortunately just a refund for an already discounted price, and the shop is not in my country), I think it's not a good idea to attach the harness to something that can fail so easily. I didn't even do anything special. Just crashing unhooked tricks for the last year... I don't want to know what would happen with older harnesses.

I pull the upper front line, smartly, and the kite pops down onto its leading edge..topside of canopy faces up. I keep tension on the same line and walk my way up and secure the kite. On my RRD kite that kitted out with a North bar and line set its not possible to do this. I pull the flag line through and wrap it round the bar...job done kites flagged and wont go anywhere.

The riders did turn his head if at all way to late and not enough. That's why there was to little turning momentum...I think.

It brings a huge risk of tangling your lines in seaweed, I wouldn't do that unless neccessary.

Hi, what is the right timing of sheeting in and out of the bar? When I load I have to sheet in, when I go upwind I have to sheet out and when I jump I have to sheet in again?
@kitingholger98266 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! After some attempts I find it easier to not fly the kite through the zenit but turn the kite at 11h/13h and fly it to the other side of the wind window through the soft zone. overall it feels for me to have more and more constant power and less risk to have slack in the lines.

Having the leash attached to the side ring saved me 2 days ago. I had a death loop, broken chicken loop, safety couldn't activate as the red steering line was wrapped around the bar and the center lines, I was being yanked out of the water and thrown 10m downwind. If the leash was attached on the spreader bar behind me, I would almost certainly not be able to release it.

We are glad to hear all went well! Be sure to advise your kite friends when you see anybody with their leash attached to the back.

Transition itself is just a half loop, right? It means that after it steering will be in reverse and very confusing. Does it make sense to turn the bar in advance while you in more control to avoid reversed steering later when you might need quick corrections?..
@alwayswindykite7 жыл бұрын
Yes correct, its half a loop. But dont worry about the bar so much. untwisting the bar comes at the end, once you finished the loop. You can always ride away with the lines crossed, that will not affect the kite. Do not try to rotate the bar ahead of the transition, that will really not end well.
@AntonBrazhnyk7 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your reply. I tried just the half-loop after it and it turns out that it was me and not the kite to blame. It was me who turned the bar with the kite during half-loop and were putting myself in trouble with reversed steering. :D
