Great video here man!!! Im 210 and noticed when I sat in the center while driving(awkward) my buddies side console jonboat picked up 3-4 mph, so my new 1436 is going to have a small custom center console instead of the side console they make for it. Heres what Ive learned in 35 years of rigging boats: Jackplates are great, start with cav plate even with the bottom as your center point and youll be able to adjust. A hydrofoil will plow and slow you down anything below even with the bottom, they really are only good to improve holeshot and reduce stern dig on takeoff so you dont bottom out in shallow water. Jackplates and hydrofoils fight each other unless youre jacked even with or above the bottom of the stern. Another thing is small outboards dont always have any steering offset turn fin which means some of your thrust goes off to the side a bit. Also put a little more weight up front if you can, what really limits jonboats is everything that ends up in the stern being hard to overcome with little weight in the bow. Once you get all that right then choose a pitch that works for your setup and needs. Tight lines brother!!!

Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I will try your tips. I have been thinking of removing my hydrofoil, as it has not really improved anything but maybe holeshot. I appreciate you insight.

@AlThePal78 I dont have much experience cutting metal either. I learned from KZbin University🤣. But a simple Chicago electric circular saw from harbor freight was more then capable. All you need is a few quick clamps, a table, a marker for measuring and the saw which was $30. I would just suggest watching a few videos so you can avoid common mistakes with the saw. Turned out to be simpler than I thought.

@@fishingistherapy so I’m getting my catch mode 110 for my birthday next month and I was just thinking ahead on it that if I add more weight to it the amount of time it takes for me to load on and load off from my vehicle if I had a roof rack.I’ve also considered if I need to buy a trailer as well I’m not sure though
@fishingistherapy
@fishingistherapy 2 күн бұрын
I keep my seat and anchor attached to the yak when I load it on my roof. Its heavier, but definitely manageable. My issue is when I get to the boat ramp, im trying to decide on a kayak cart to lug it to and from parking spot or just keep pulling it off of the roof at the bottom of the ramp, because a trailer would make life so much easier. Tough decision, maybe a trailer is best. I just dont have the garage space.

Can I use the same jack plate to lower my motor? So I have 15” short shaft but my transom is 20”. Pls advise. Thanks
@fishingistherapy
@fishingistherapy 7 күн бұрын
Yes and No. My specific plate only offered a 3 inch rise and 2 inch Fall from placement. For a 5 inch difference you need to make sure the plate has a 5 inch drop which ia going to cause alot of setback from the transom. I ended up going with the On-the-fly jackplate because I needed more rise and fall and wanted to adjust it while underway and now I can rise 5 icnhes or fall 5 easily needing my socket and wrench. But if you know your exact depth based on load your carry, this is a great plate to have. Hope that helps.

I carry my kayak in a utility trailer so I can't wet launch it, so I have to park pull the kayak from parking to water and vice versa. if you have time, could you do a quick video how you launch it at the boat ramp? And may be a little pros/cons vs just paddling?

Okay, I have a video im editing right now and I just load it on my SUV and back down the ramp, drop it at te waters edge, take everything i need and put it on the yak, drive to park then walk back down and setup everything. The only issue I found with launching with a trolling motor is that you have to push off a but more to lower the motor but other than that its such a great upgrade. Im happy I added the motor.
