How do you ensure your partner does not drop the coving slightly when you are cutting?

The projection measurement is obviously top secret, so pretty useless video really

Could you advise what screws should be used? Struggling to get cornice to hold - screwing in to plasterboard ceiling and masonry walls. Thanks

Pin nails work well.
@simonl2072 Жыл бұрын
I used pin nails in solid plaster along the chalk lines (ceiling and drop lines) and they worked a treat. As far as fixing if you use something like herculite coving adhesive you'll need a crowbar to remove it but a standard fine tipped screw will likely dig in enough to give you a hold while it sets. I had a slightly protruding wall and although the coving creaked once with screws I got it to hold the 2mm bending.....no cracks but I would suggest digging out the wall to keep the wall even rather than being a chancer like me.

Don't go into teaching will ya! What is the projection? What is the correct height? Really!
@gowen81285 жыл бұрын
David Smith what a stupid question to ask the projection is the measurement that the coving projects out, the correct height is the depth of the coving Really??

thanks for this life saving video. i'm now at the bay which is 22.5 degree so do i half the projection to do this cut ?
@markjamesdraper7 жыл бұрын
Hi John. In the perfect world that would be the way to cut the mitres but I find most bays are not that precise. The best way is to mark the projection of the cornice on the ceiling all the way around the bay. This will give you the intersections of the top of the mitres. Then working from left to right offer the first piece up and mark the intersection on the cornice. For example if you are going from an external mitre to an obtuse internal mitre cut your external, add the measure of the wall to the bottom edge and do a straight cut. You can then offer it in place and Mark the obtuse internal intersection. This can then be cut. Before you fix this in place cut the next piece with two straight cuts and Mark the intersections. Working this way means you always need to Mark the next piece before fixing the current one in place but it will give you the perfect mitre. Hope that makes sense

Please what is the Projection. Is it the size of the piece that projects from the ceiling outwards.

Hi, how much do people charge to fit these for customers? :)
@Plasterceilingroses9 жыл бұрын
+ThePolechick The honest answer is it varies according to whether you call someone in just to fit this, or whether they are doing other work for you at the same time, where you are in the country etc. The best thing to do is call three local builder/decorators/plasterers and get quotes for fitting.

Hi Bob. We left that scene in deliberately so people can see a mitre doesn't have to be absolutely perfect. That little chip will disappear during the filling stage; it is easier and cheaper to fill than to recut the piece. Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated :)
