Bad acting, bad chemistry...This movie feels so fake...

my only complaint is that it lacks the rhythm of older john woo/hk flicks.

This movie was utterly shockingly bad. I mean what a fall from grace for John Woo. Laughably bad acting, script and for a man who redefined how action was shot for more than a decade, it really is sad to see as the action scenes are just poor.

Am I shocked that yet another remake misses the mark? Errr…. No. Specifically regarding the tone, If there’s anything that springs to mind from the original, it’s the colors, made even more vivid by the gloom. That along with the soundtrack ensured that the movie became a prime example of a certain type of 90’s media that more or less stands the test of time. From your description, it sounds like yet another instance of soul-less money grabbing. Would have been awesome to get some clips along with your review. I enjoy your insight, but it is also nice to have some visual reference.

I saw it yesterday and I found it as you say, quite disturbing and with a mysterious atmosphere, the murderer was quite interesting as he appeared and also the hotel concierge, I just think they did not know how to finish it well although it was the most logical ending.

Nicky whelan is amazing to look at though.

I had no idea that this was a CBS production but 2 minutes into it we had Woke/LGBTQ elements. No thanks!

Not as good as the first three Alien movies but certainly better than every other Alien movie is how I’d sum Romulus up.

You really do well in reviewing film. To me you should have more subscribers, but I know it is not easy to get. Anyhow, you review film with grave love. It is very obvious to me.

This is definitely going to be on my watchlist along with Kensuke's kingdom. As an artist, seeing that gorgeous 2d animation on the big screen, you already know it's gonna be a banger! I wanna see this in theaters so bad! :)

I’m torn simply because the cinematography & camera quality looks amazing. It is a shame they didn’t do more with the story. They could have made it far more interesting & dramatic.

I really don’t like gore or trauma porn either, but I loved this film bc it was a satire + exploration of people who do & the industry that perpetuates it. The driving conflict was that these types of films are problematic and the main theme was “OK let’s talk about the spectrum of horror fans….” That and the gore was so intentionally and obviously fake. The corn syrup was chemically bright red and there were visible sugar crystals. 99% of the violence was so absurd & comedic (guillotine boobs). So me it was less disturbing than your average serious horror and DEFINITELY less disturbing than the vast majority of true crime, which almost never shows gore. But alas as with a lot of what makes horror horror is ppl’s psychological associations with different subject matters.

Not Chuck Norris best movie

Glad you mentioned the editing/ effects because they were absolutely jarring at times. Any scene where they are in the buggy/car looked kind of strange and unnatural. One of those movies where I enjoy watching reviews like this more so than the actual movie.

You are very good at what you do. You come across as someone who went to film school and/or produced smaller motion pictures yourself. I sometimes do interviews with KZbinrs who review film. I actually saw it as a mystery movie. To me I just didn't care for it. I don't love musical, I don't like prison movies, and I do not really love all African-American movies. I didn't like it. Not for me.

loved this film. interesting roll out strategy from A24-- taking it VERRY slow, only 4 screens its first week then opening handfuls per week after. hopefully it's still part of the mix come December. breathtaking.

I wanted to like this movie, but I feel like it was one-sided and unfair for the religious community. I know there are churches that exist that are radical, but this point of view was a little overdone. No wonder people are afraid to have a relationship with any churches because media and Cinema make it seem terrifying. They made the Christians seem either really stupid or angry. I grew up in several different types of religions and a lot of my friends were gay. I never met anyone like what they portrayed in this movie.

Worst movie I have seen all year... how the hell did that script get approved!!! Like that bit pouring petrol in a pip in a subway station that is a few hundred yards away from thee town hall was utter jumping the shark...my god it is bad. I really can't believe you enjoyed it... it was a stinker.

Holy cow is this the first Colleen Hoover film adaptation? Her books are some of the genuinely weirdest plots/dialogue I have seen… yet she has a huge audience. I think you nailed it about the “lifetime movie” vibes, her books give me the vibe of Lifetime TV if the writers were 1000% more sexually repressed.

I was there when they filmed it. I was in the pit, so I can see myself every now and then on screen. She has never performed and danced so well and sang live in the way. She said she hasn’t went on tour in a while without much pain (she has fibromyalgia), and that’s why her performance was at the top of her game. She also filmed this in LA in one take, there was no other LA dates to film but one night. I’m a dancer so I auditioned for this tour! It was a great experience 👏🏽
