I thought it sounded mostly fine. It's just slow. Perhaps he was just learning this song. Irish Tune from Country Derry is also often played slowly, but maybe not quite this slowly.

I didn't want spit or worse in whatever I ordered. I've since talked with a corporate office and they are sending a gift card to my PO box. It does help I work just 1 mile from their corporate HQ and I really only live 2 miles from it. I was a regular at their flagship walk-up store (Next door to Sonic HQ) until they closed it for N1H1-SARS-COV-2.

The fact that even with all of the power on the bass that the G.O. Can be heard so clearly and plainly is a testament to the absolute power that the stop has.

What a wonderful thing to have in this country.... I am so happy that there were and are people who realized what this gem was worth... that it wasn't junked (its happened a lot) ... that we will have this for posterity.... its an American icon.... may it be ever so remembered as such and cared for ....

Is there a specific name for the tune that starts being played around 1:20? Or Is it like part of the longer version of American Anthem itself or something? Magnificent Instrument By the way, Cheers from Canada!

My question is how do they keep this organ in tune? Pipes are temperature sensitive, and I'm sure there's a wide variance of temperature in that arena.
@SaveKilgenOKC
@SaveKilgenOKC 5 жыл бұрын
That's very relevant as the place is also still an ice rink. And the worst thing they have are rodeos, which causes most of the ciphers to happen. They have a very narrow range of operating temperatures. Beyond that, they really can't guarantee it will sound right. So HVAC upgrades, maintenance, and such is just as integral as anything else. And cleanliness is also key. So they meticulously clean the chambers on a regular schedule. And this is not a hands-off monster like most concert organs. It has a huge team of caretakers who have assigned duties, some of them extremely specific. With all of that, and good HVAC, it can now be used for events like AGO. Before it all started, I'm not sure they could have had a grade school recital.

@@SaveKilgenOKC Makes sense! And good to know. I play a pipe organ, and we have tuning challenges because of the HVAC system the church has. It's badly in need of replacement. Sounds like they have made great strides all around with this instrument!

@@matthewharhai4039 also remember, the blowers are now vfc, and idle down to open valves that allow the humidifiers to pump lots of moist air into everything, it never had that before.

The second photo at :16 is the original console for the organ. It was later relegated to the 2nd console as movable. Also for dual performers. It will eventually be integrated into the digital control system in the future and not longer just be a museum piece. 1:47 is the digital relay board for the left chamber. A network cable runs from the console. The lava lamp was just there for ambiance.

With a working C.A. the tonal expression of the M-L is incredible. I’m always impressed with the raw power of the pedal and how the G.O. Is needed to overcome that power with that pure trumpet blast at the end.

The photo at 3:41 is a 64 foot CCCCC Diaphone-Dulzian. It clacks at 8hz. If you get a full wave length out in the hall, you will better realize the note.

That stop is the world's loudest, the Grand Ophicleide. And it's done more than blow out dust. At one point, a mouse fell into one of the pipes and died. The next time that pipe was played happened to be for tuning. It shot the mouse right out, and it landed on the tuner's head!
