Mr. Townsend. I would like to have a meeting with you about the district I am considering running for. Our representative is getting closer to and friends with the AOC mob. And in her 3rd term. We know she needs to go. I'm just trying to see if I am brave enough to run against her. Would like to talk to about the demographics and thoughts related to this incumbent. Please let me know if we can speak, email, or text. Thank you.

Jay, I have both parties offering to endorse me for an election, I feel slightly stronger towards the Republican party, but the Democratic Party is offering more campaign funds and assistance. It is a purple district/region and both parties have an equal chance of winning.

This past November I ran for the US house in my district as a progressive libertarian. That was a huge mistake as I found I’m much more of a progressive Democrat. Did running on my progressive platform as a libertarian ruin my political ambitions? Also could you make a video about primary challenging an incumbent. I have to wait until after 2028 to run again so I can run as a democrat. But I would be challenging an incumbent Democrat also.
@jaytownsend223 күн бұрын
We are in a forgiving age for past transgressions. In fact, 100 years from now our age will be known for the absence of shame. So unless you've said or done something absolutely horrific nothing has ruined your political ambitions. I will do the video you suggested at some point soon. For now, I'll share this. When you are running against an incumbent, you have to give voters a reason to fire the incumbent. There are polite and impolite ways to do that. The clean way is to base your differences on policy. What you will do that the incumbent hasn't or won't. Problems you'll tackle that the incumbent has not and never will. The set of priorities you will pursue that your opponent has not. Jay

@ I’ll be on the lookout for that video. I love your insight. I definitely didn’t say/do anything to regret or that would be bad except running with the wrong party and breaking with party stance to stay true to my beliefs and why I was running in the first place. I knew I needed to stand for my beliefs over standing on a party line. Thanks for your insight!

@myosoteus history books. Of great leaders who overcame adversity. To narrow down your focus on ongoing wars and different crises, I suggest to find a scholarly source of both liberal and conservative thought, perhaps a favorite or two opinion writers. Example: on matters economic you might want to sample Phil gramm in the wsj, paul krugman on sub stack and the economist. The point is to expose yourself to both sides, and learn enough to form an opinion. There will always be more to read than you have time to read, so quite often public figures will form a brain trust of people who spend full time studying issues of our time and rely on them for policy council. Excellent video, Jay! Another vital skill is the ability to listen and comprehend the words of others. These words can come from voters, constituents, and community leaders. This skill should be inherent to "being smart" but can be easily overlooked and undervalued. The power of listening and comprehending what you hear allows you to see patterns in the community and is an essential ingredient to crafting compelling messages that will make people *want* to vote for you. A problem I see with many candidates is that they put an inordinate amount of importance on themselves, neglecting the voters who hold the keys to getting elected. Everyone wants to feel as though they have been heard and understood, and any serious campaign should make that a central focus. My background: I ran for local office at 17, was first elected at 18, and subsequently reelected at 21. I have been serving for 6 years, and what I wrote above is undoubtedly the most important lesson I have learned thus far.

I’d honestly throw the entire first point out the window in the modern political landscape, at least where I live. Our representative won in a landslide in 2022 and was unopposed in 2024 because she had MAGA support in a very rural district. Seems to me like the biggest influence on who wins elections is the amount of money you have to spread your message, combined with support from pre-existing political leaders who “average” voters already trust. I don’t think that the content of a message matters nearly as much as how it is said, and who it appeals to.
@jaytownsend2212 күн бұрын
@@opossumboyo Some districts are pre-ordained to produce a certain outcome. The only way to overthrow an incumbent is by offering voters something they want that they are not getting from the incumbent. It’s called a campaign message. And yes, you will need money to win a congressional race. There are objectionable things about our democracy. but that same democracy gives voters a chance to change the ways things are. it beats living in Iran, Russia or China. Jay
