I honestly just love how the fans keep trash-talking about him for most of the crap he's done, yet they seem to be perfectly fine with ignoring the fact that he was risking his own life just in order to save his ungrateful friend Dustin from these two bullies in that one scene in season 1.

As someone who took a mild interest in Voltron but dropped it mid season 3 and has only now binged it due to the show leaving Netflix, I would sum the whole thing up as "wasted potential." All characters from season 3 onwards suffer from lack of development and the change in the writing vibes from S1 and S2 is jarring. When people talk about potential relationships my only thought is how the show writers didn't seem to care about making the characters become friends, let alone potential love interests, which in a show where 'the power of friendship' is a core dynamic is really disapointing. On Klance itself; could it have worked? Absolutely in my opinion. But in order for it to work it would of needed the foundations of a friendship arc to stand on, something that while being built up in the first two seasons gets side-lined after season three. And this applies for all of the characters. The reason why canon Allurance feels so hollow is because we never see Lance and Allura develope to get to that point. We get shown step ten after missing steps two through nine. It really didn't matter by season seven what love relationships developed between any of the characters because by that point it's too late, you would have to dilute and cram it into two seasons (Which is what happened with Allurance)

I liked Mike in season 1 and how he protected El then in season 2 with how he supported Will and then yea they did him dirty and instead Dustin seems more like the heart of the group. Honestly I feel they never should have had them move away and just stayed in Hawkins and keep Mike as the leader role! Will's painting would have made more sense :p

I would like this as a fanfic maybe, but I wouldn't like it as a rewrite of the show. LOL I thought from what you said at the beginning about developing the characters I thought you meant people like Rose and Juleka or Marc and Nathaniel that were either given a role in the show too big for their limited characters, like Rose and Juleka, or were really fun/interesting characters that didn't get enough screen time at all, like Marc and Nathaniel. So I, like, watched for almost an hour and didn't hear anything about the classmates. ^^; I guess it sounded to me from the beginning that you and I disliked the same parts about the show, but then in the rewrite it sounded like we disliked very different things. I know it's just opinions, but the things you ended up taking out were some of the things like actually liked a lot in the actual show, and then the things I might've changed maybe were just left alone and we went different directions. Most people here seem to like your version better, so somebody's gotta say something nice about the original. ;u;

I think the theory of people finding Klance before even watching the show is pretty true. I myself was suggested some of the Klance content here on KZbin and thought it was cute. After watching some videos (and reading comments, preparing me for it not being canon) I finally decided to watch it anyways. Having watched it once and currently rewatching I can say: Yes, Klance did have and will have some moments, that could have been taken further. But just as said, season 3 made it clear that there will be no Klance happening. No matter the reason behind it. When it comes to the ship of Sheith.. Nope, not gonna happen! Simply for the fact that Keith has called Shiro his brother multiple times. I do like Sheith, but only in a brotherly, being comfort for each other way. Allurance.. Hell no, I still feel sorry for Lance. I simply don't like the fact that Lance was clearly hitting on Allura during the whole show and Allura also clearly being annoyed by it. Even sending him away when she was with Lotor (which I liked way more than Allurance..). I do get why people ship them, it could have been a nice ship, if it would have been introduced better that it was. To me it was like: Season 8, we need a couple. Fast. How about Lance finally getting his way with Allura? Sounds great, let's do that! Right in the first episode! But I do feel like he was kind of a rebound for Lotor. She was just seeking comfort and Lance was happy to give it to her. I think that this relationship happend way to fast and rushed, without proper development on Alluras side. I'm actually glad that Allura and Lance have not been "Endgame" as many would call it. Allura died, which was a little over the top but oh well. It was her own choise so I'm fine with it. At the end it was like I would have liked it all the way through the show: No couples at all. Would have been less stressfull for everyone, including the characters. Look at Keith and Pidge! They had better things to do than find a boyfriend in the middle of space war! (And yes, I do believe that Keith is either gay or not interested at all, considering his lack of interest in any female he came across) But in a way I think that the producers actually, if not intentionally, made space for the shippers to take over at the end. With Allurance being split up, they have given everyone the chance to make their own ending. Even bringing back Allura. It is fiction after all, everything is possible.

They put the boy character in the title to market towards another demographic (boys under 7 years old), which is definitely a choice considering Adrien is non-existent in the plot. oops.

In Mexico schools, most children (~90%) finish primary school (1-6 in Mexico) and half of that finish secondaria/middle school (7-9) around 15 years old I personally know people who went for preparatoria/high school but its very rare for children to attend their and even rarer to graduate from. and university is another thing that i wont go into. My experience was different so i cant say much more than this edit: My experience which isn't the norm in Mexico Was moved to the USA when I was a toddler Went to a private elementary school for a few years moved to Mexico Went to a private primary school + took a private Saturday school (not religious based) Went to a Technical Secundaria for a a year (which is a harder version of secundaria/middle school) moved to USA For the first time, went to a public middle school for a year Finally, went to an accelerated high school dubbing as a Technical College Graduated with a Technical degree at age 18

This was great, thank you. I think this made me realize why the show is the way it is. Even though I like your proposal, I think it could never be as popular in your version. It made me rethink why they did all of that and usually the answer is more complex than "the writers are bad or stupid". I feel like the choices they made are on purpose. The shipping culture is the reason why the show is so popular. Making it so it's easy to understand what is happening in the show just with context clues. You can jump into any episode with no knowledge of what is going on, and you won't be lost. The flaws made the show what it is.

i read the doc of your rewrite and i personally didn't like any of it but i can respect your passion. i feel like yours ends up cheapening the characters' bonds just like the last 1.5 seasons of the show did. cutting out the lovingly placed clone arc with all of its homages to golion and nixing the reveal is probably the part that i disliked the most. minimizing shiro and keith's bond was... certainly a choice. a terrible one, but a choice nonetheless. giving all of hunk and keith + shiro and keith's moments to lance and keith doesn't make sense and in your rewrite there isn't even enough basis to their dynamic changing other than you stating multiple times that their dynamic is different and everyone notices. there's no actual sense of reward for lance reaching out to keith so consistently. in canon lance is deeply insecure and can't easily break out of the persona he's cultivated around others. he's able to speak so candidly with coran because he doesn't have this construct of lance in his mind. he doesn't /have to/ front for the man like he does with the other paladins. including the monsters and mana episode without shiro does not work. it's a set up for the clone reveal and allurance + team building sans keith. you can have keith there for a monsters and mana campaign but you can't replace shiro. the entire structure for the episode falls apart without him. "For Keith character that he plays as, you can come up with anything you’d like, it’s not that big of a deal" shows a fundamental lack of understanding for the material. kuron (clone shiro) plays as a paladin who later has his twin replace him with the exact same stats because it's a commentary on the old sven (golion) dub/sub characterization and to show the audience that kuron thinks he's shiro but he's playing the part of a paladin in and out of m&m. in the show we later get the reveal that keith knew about shiro's condition and was so terrified at the thought of losing him that he went to insane lengths to protect him but in your rewrite he's confused. shiro didn't raise keith, they were best friends. it's their friendship that allows keith to draw his sword in season 1 and its their relationship that lets black grow wings. skipping the clone arc and then the best mini arc (the black paladins) that the staff put their heart and soul into is actually a joke. allura using altean alchemy to reawaken shiro in your rewrite is anticlimactic and a waste of page space. in your rewrite there isn't really any interpersonal development outside of keith and lance. your hunk and pidge points are always so vague but you constantly have lance and keith engaging in these really charged conversations that don't feel earned. there's a notable lack of garrison trio (hunk, pidge, and lance) interaction in this, allura and lotor already have a complicated, and i'll say it: convoluted past, and shiro and keith who are stated multiple times to be super important to each other and love each other feel like strangers in your rewrite. you don't get any sense that they care about each other outside of some vague sense of obligation and the keith in your draft never would've been there for the inciting incident of the series (he definitely would've left his best friend in the popup hospital in the desert off base). another thing: the shiro, lotor, allura and keith plotline is a mess. if keith knew that it was lotor that had tortured his friend it would've fractured voltron forever. he wouldn't put up with lotor and he would've been the one who didn't trust allura (contrasting to allura's mistrust in canon when she learns he's half-galra). shiro also would've been uncomfortable with allura and lotor's past given his ptsd spiral with sendak where he was experiencing auditory hallucinations of the man taunting him. but i guess since your rewrite focuses mostly on klance it makes sense that you wouldn't actually consider these friendship dynamics and how they'd complicate things. i actually won't even touch on the weapons upgrade comment or you likening keith to zuko because i saw red for several seconds reading that part. changing lance's weapon to a sword doesn't vibe with his character and neither does pidge's. it's actually essential to his character that keith receives his scar from his battle with kuron because it shows us the violence of the galra imperial regime; it's a mirror to shiro's scar from his gladiator days and it's meant to be a visual callback to krolia's facial marking. the kuron vs. keith fight isn't something you can skip without considering these things outside of an aesthetic perspective. even knowing that kuron was a clone controlled by haggar, keith chose to neutralize the threat by slicing off kuron's galra tech arm /after/ telling kuron that he's a brother to him and that keith loves him. there's an exchange in, i believe, season 1, where keith and shiro talk about how the galra took shiro's arm. keith slicing off the weapon arm is the end point of that set up. he's undeniably galra (you briefly see his pupils chage mid-fight). despite how much he loves his friend, he's still the one who ends up enacting the same violence against shiro. looking at the kuron vs. keith fight, it's set up as a gladiator style fight as a callback to shiro's time imprisoned by the galra. even the scenery setup and the countless shiro clones put the viewer in mind of a roman coliseum. "At this party, I want to see a Klance kiss, and I want it to be Keith that kisses Lance because I think that would be great and we were robbed of this" / "It wraps everyone’s stories up well and it makes sure that everyone has a satisfying ending" this rewrite actually didn't wrap up everyone's stories well, it was just klance: the space opera ft. everyone else. adam and shiro were over because he told shiro that he wouldn't be there waiting for him if shiro chose to go on the kerberos mission. shiro wanted to see the world because he has / had a degenerative disease (you never address it in your rewrite so who knows!). having his happy ending being with adam and this big hotshot military leader falls into the same pitfall the show did with him and the atlas. he wanted to explore space, not be a military leader or else he never would've went on the kerberos mission. but hey, nothing other than klance kissing and going on space adventures matters. even when it contradicts lance's desire to be home with his family. LM: But also, there’s just a really big difference in the relationship between Shiro and Adam, and then the relationship between Keith and Shiro. Shiro and Adam have a very adult relationship, that needed to be based on mutual respect. Whereas the relationship between Shiro and Keith, is a relationship that took place during Keith’s most formative years, and Shiro has a huge impact on him. And that’s something that, where Adam might be able to walk away from a relationship, because he doesn’t feel that respect, that relationship is something that Keith would hold on to his whole life, and probably never be able to walk away from. I agree to disagree with some parts you mentioned. If you analyse el and will’s friendship/relationship with mike and also how other couples are portrayed, there’re so much parallels and evidence to limit mike+will as just best friends. And I hope s5, the duffers show us a mature view of mike’s perspective between these relationships considering the time skip -nearing the early 90’s, and the show including other similar pairs!! Also, the more I watched through the seasons (rewatched a few times already) I realised that mike’s storyline becomes very interesting when will’s character is driving the plot. For example, in s1 & 2, mike feels more of a main character alongside will, compared to s3 & 4. Just a random rewatch observation

Honestly, I like the show's version better. I think her ideas with fixing a few things worked, but changing the entire thing? I don't think so. Or maybe it's because she's describing the overall thing and we don't get to see it play out episode-by-episode. Who knows?

I would've liked Mike to take El's side even after she assaulted Angela. She was feeling all alone and vulnerable and yet Mike seemed intent on blaming her for lashing out. His body language at the roller rink, and what he said at dinner was really bad. His girl needs to be shown a lot of love, and he should endeavour to understand her better. I believe El doesn't want to be thought of as a "superhero" to Mike, but yet he keeps telling her that. Its implying that her worth as a person is because of her special abilities. That is quite hurtful. But being as young as he (Mike) is, I can buy into how he doesn't understand this yet. Its funny how we're discussing fictional characters like this, but the show and these superb actors have created really compelling and believable characters. So much so that it has got me thinking if I know my partner well enough too. Or am i as bad as Mike? I enjoyed this analysis of S1-4 of ST's flagship couple. Its very interesting.
