I was outside playing my guitar trying to get up to the main showroom. I ended up just hanging outside for hours and met the entire band. Dave signed my shirt and showed me proper finger placement for Two Step. Wild.

I was an intern there. Earlier in the day they were rehearsing. And they sent me and another intern to get them coffee from starbucks. (Base player was sick with flu and wanted echonecea tea). When we got back we knocked on the studio door to hand them their coffee and the studio manager brought us in and had us hand them the coffees and tea directly. And when we turned around to walk out they told us to sit down and tell us how they sounded and me and the other intern had a private concert of all four of those songs they performed! I always tell people they were the nicest celebrities I met during my time there.

I have really enjoyed watching these 🤣 I have a few questions if anyone can answer them and doesn’t mind taking the time to do so. 1) what is/was the relationship between VidAmerica and VCA-Teletronics (just the same parent company of Video Corp. of America, I’m assuming, and as such, these offices were headquartered closely together on 55th St.?)? 2) Were the VidAmerica beta and VHS tapes duped @ VCA-Teletronics at any point, or was this done elsewhere at another location? 3) I have two VCA-Teletronics VHS tapes for Columbia Records (one is a compilation reel and the other a video promo single). What were these used for generally/what were their intended purposes? 4) Most importantly, what happened to the Vestron Video release of Night of the Living Techicians? I would have rented that😂 Background: I collect VidAmerica stuff and I searched the internet for the answers to the above before asking here. Cheers!

You ask some tough questions as this was 40 years ago! There was a VCA that was a porn video company, no association. VCA was added to the company name, Teletronics after a buyout, I beleive. Just before my time woth company, 1986-92. I cannot remembe VBidAmerica, I'll have to ask our FB group. VCA Teletronics consisted of post production @231 E. 55th and the original MTV studio on w. 33rd., now about where the Vessel is, and 5 duplicating plants, one being S/T Sony Teletronics partnership for the first dupe plant, all 3/4" to start with. We did tons of stuff for record companies. Not certain which tapes for Columbia you are talking about, but probably upfront reels. Vestron! Yikes. Are you referring to the Xmas video produced by the night crew? That is posted on my channel.

Yes, VidAmerica has the exact same octagon of V’s logo and on the early cassettes it says, “a subsidiary of Video Corp. of America.” So I was trying to figure out if VCA-Teletronics is another subsidiary of Video Corp. of America OR actually the parent company at this point since sometime in the late ‘70s/early 80’s there appeared to be the merger resulting in VCA-Teletronics. It’s ok if you don’t know. I can venture a guess that the VidAmerica beta and VHS tapes were duplicated at one of the five plants you mentioned along with other companies that I know outsourced their duplication to Video Corp. of America in the ‘80s (the least of which being Disney!). Thanks for the info about MTV. I assumed there was a connection since you also had posted a few video uploads in the old MTV studio. They are just music video compilations. In your experience, are upfront reels used mainly by studio heads to decide which artists are the ones they’re going to invest in “building up,” or are they just usually sent to media outlets- like MTV - to play on air? And yes, I was talking about the zombie short from your Christmas video about the night crew that you uploaded onto your channel. Priceless! Thanks again

Looks like my reply got wiped by a bad keystroke. Teletronics buitla n empire of mass dupkucation plants that Ronald Pesrlman bought. He sold off the profitable awhich left us and 5 dupe plants, That may have been Vid Corp. Can't remember and that was before my time with company. We were an LBO VCA Teletronics, nothing to do with Vid Corp. All the videos I have posted are either music videos or live from MTV. No upfront stuff. @@Wickesy1111

As a fellow Puerto Rican. Not my type of music but man he is great! Even as a kid in Menudo . Great entertainer! I love how you can tell he was having issues with his ear piece . And tried to convey that to the engineers. But still killed it. Great band!
