great stuff -- more soulful than Monkees or Murray

I used to lie in my cell at the Ft Ord stockade doing hard labor time because I refused to serve anymore during the Vietnam War. The station in Monterey, that the stockade would allow us to listen to, played a lot of John Stewart. July you're a woman and Armstrong helped keep my sanity

I remember a great night in Detroit in the late '70's with Tom singing this song at my In-Laws home. I have asked "Dave" to perform it a number of times. But...

I first saw John Stewart in Denver in 1973, and I was mezmerised by the voice and the exquisite lyrics. His Phoenix Concerts Album remains my favorite. He is missed.

This song is so true. As I can't go back to the girl I really loved. I was so stupid to leave her. As my life has been so empty ever since😢

John was and still is so much a part of the romance between me and my beautiful wife of 47 years. We met and went to a John concert and we’ve been together since that day. We miss you so much John. God bless you for being such an important part of our lives.

I didn't know John Stewart used s Seeger style long neck banjo. Big Stewart fan. Learned guitar after hearing the Willard album when it first came out... a million years ago.

What a great career and life he had. I followed the Kingston Trio and then his solo career to the end. A real American treasure.

John, I just loved seeing you preform at Camp just now. It was wonderful to hear you sing! I’ve reached what we call Old Age and I appreciated that song. Just to let you know, while we are at different political viewpoints, I love you and Jody! Let’s stay in touch. I love our conversations!

From the Roostertail nightclub with the Trio until last seeing him in Denver in 2006, he was true to himself and his craft. His body of work should be recognized as a great singer/songwriter of Americana.

A version that sounds more like Elvis than the Monkees where the razor is old rather than cold and he is funky rather than happy...
