Kykar was one of my favorite spell slinger decks do polymorph decks count because baral and Kari zev polymorph was fun I played 9 bombs and fblthp for a roulette feel that was a blast I’m brewing new marchesa to build crimes seems solid and I lack a grixis list currently.

I'm working on a Thantis deck that runs Ruric Thar, Kaervek the Merciless....and every other effect that punishes noncreature spells. I won't stop you but it WILL hurt.....LOTS.^^

Not a fan of this particular one. The 'attacking creature' clause means that there are TONS of creatures this will never hit...and it can be easily played around as it is VERY telegraphed. My favorite is Pulsemage Advocate. Being able to reanimate anything for the low price of giving someone 3 cards back is bonkers. Nullmage Advocate is also pretty good. Sure, green isn't lacking in artifact/enchantment removal but most of them aren't repeatable.

@@apiwutintongkam3149he went for the most powerful in two colors, in izzet, that title goes to Stella, cheap to cast and cheap to combo with. Niv mizzet asks for too much mana to not have protection in it and also is heavy in color necessity.

I have a Yuriko deck and it is one of my favorites. I had tried doing ninjas before, using the Planechase Anthology ninja deck as a starting point, and it was just bad. Then Yuriko came out and saved it. That said, I maybe have a 10% win rate with her, if that 😅

It’s pretty simple to explain. When it comes to the stage of declaring blockers, the defending player divides their creatures into 2 piles. Then the attacking player then divides attacking creatures into 2 piles. Creatures in pile 1 can only block other creatures in pile 1, and same for pile 2 Flying creatures just ignore this card

Mairisil rules! Was my first commander. Combo'd him with mirror-mad phantasm to self mill my whole library in one turn. Useful in labman/thoracle builds!

I bought Yuriko for a dollar but ended up not making the deck because I read about how un-fun she is to play against 😂 I think the designer said in hindsight he would've made commander ninjutsu have commander tax as well

I have a yuriko player in my casual pod and it's always fun seeing those big cards revealed. He rarely wins because we do proper threat assessment, but everyone has fun. People need to stop whining imho

This was a great list. All of your videos are really good. On a side note. You should do videos on ramp, mana curve, how you build your decks, cheap card draw, underrated removal, unknown good cards.

I love dropping turn 4-5 ulamog on sweaty control/aggro decks. If you can keep it on board long enough to get a terrarian cleaver equiped and sacrifice a bunch of your drones those +1's count to his annihilator just in case they're running a low cost deck

Fun Fact: due to some fun rules, if you blink or flicker Ulamog he'll see himself in exile while he enters and you can guarantee 10 +1/+1 counters every time. Abusing this with sneak attack and an ephemerate effect nets you a 17/17 annihilator 10

Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale is a good one for voltron decks. When she ETB, you can attach all equipments at once for 0 mana.

I think it should be mentioned that Commanders with tutor abilities, like Zur or Light-Paws, can lead to very samey games and you gotta be okay with that. It isn't so much "wow, i have access to any of 30 or so Aura spells" as it is flowcharting to the same handful of clearly best Auras every game. As a personal recommendation for a Voltron Commander i don't see many people use: Arwen, Mortal Queen. The second paragraph of text on her can matter every now and then, but the important bit is that she is the cheapest legendary creature that is just indestructible by default. With a turn 1 mana dork she can come down turn 2, and she is already in the ideal colors for Aura decks. card recommendations: Pariah and Metastatic Evangel.

wow that is crazy good. 6 damage is alot. magic the gathering used to be balanced slower. so it was slow paced unless someone made a combo deck. these days all the aggro stuff is ramped up and combo decks are kind of a thing of the past.

For Zevlor i run omnispell adept(2u tap cast an instant or sorcery from your hand without paying its cost), omen hawker( tap add 1U to use only on activated abilities)& training grounds(reduce creature activated ability by 2 but not less than 1 mana) package to pay for zevlor's ability as well as omnispell adept's ability to trigger zevlor.

Came for Geist of Saint Traft. Waiting until turn 4 or 5 to get Uril out and start loading him on turn 6 is way too slow. Geist does work faster. With Dorothea and Invocation of Saint Traft you can get more tokens, and with Sundial of the Infinite you can keep them.

Hi buddy, you think Uril is slow? In a well optimised deck you can definitely get him out faster. Yes we’ve lost mana crypt, and jewelled lotus but other good options are out there. Umm I might look into how fast he can be cast efficiently. Thanks for the comment :)

@CosmicMangoMTG So do you just mulligan until you get a bunch of ramp/rocks to get him out fast? That's poor sportsmanship. Planning for what _can_ happen in an optimal pull is poor strategy. Planning for what can _consistently_ happen is good strategy.

My fav Voltron deck is my Raiyuu, Storm’s Edge samurai tribal. Once I get Raiyuu online I can kill multiple players per turn.

If anyone wanna build a Slicer deck, please put another creature as a secret commander. Like Alexios Deimos, to accompany Him. Don't just put protection and pump spell on Your deck. Because Your pod *WILL* remove Slicer any time It hits the board. Even before it hits the board, in some cases.

I had a zur deck and took it apart... Tutoring every turn actually doesnt feel great. Always felt like "Oh are you guys playing singleton? Gosh, that's gotta be tough!" As I tutor out my oblivion ring or whatever. 😅

Another voltron commander to consider is Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher. To control the board, loop creatures like Fleshbag Marauder from the yard usong her attack ability. Then you protect her with creatures Selfless Savior, which can also be resurrected by Carmen. 🧛‍♀️⚫️⚪️

Just built a voltron deck with Child of Alara, haven't had a chance to play it yet but it seems fun. It's got tromple built in, gives you access to five color goodstuff, and kind of protects itself ("Go ahead, kill my commander. It'll be funny."). Top picks would be Gift of Immortality to keep the fun train rolling, Ashaya, Soul of the Wild to make all your creatures stop being "nonland permanents," and Enduring Courage or possibly Anger to ensure Child can come out swinging again post-board wipe.

Best voltron commander for any casual table is geist of saint raft hands down. Zur would also work well though.

@ubberJakerz skull briar still gets hit by removal and has a harder time being evasive. Better never set back than a little. I've tried both, geist never gets beaten (with the exception of slicer and his wannabe clones but those I left out since they honestly fall more towards cedh)

Probably shouldn't be using phrases like "top tier" and "never gets beaten" to describe commanders for a "casual table", my dudes. Neither of those should be your goal at a casual table.

@TeaAddict1 For a casual table, Skullbriar is top tier. He doesn't care about removal, that's his whole gimmick. Geist isn't good in casual because he ends up being too stacksy.

Another great budget card (for commander at least) is Nightscape Familiar. Having a creature that can make your red/blue spells cheaper is really good! (Sadly not legal in most formats)

You forgot Killian, Ink Duelist. Makes every aura 2 less to cast if it targets him or any creature you control. So you can suit him up with 3 auras in turn 3. Plus, in built lifelink and menace.

"if it targets him or any creature you control" yea but it also reduces things you cast that targets creatures you DON'T control. Makes removal cheap and lockdown auras cheap too. Crazy op card.

Question: If an opponent taps two [[Swamp]] to pay for [[Sign in Blood]] with a [[Spreading Algae]] on one, how many times does each effect of [[Spreading Algae]] trigger?

Single target land destruction is not a rare effect, most commander decks should be running at least a couple pieces of land destruction for those particularly powerful lands that need to be removed. But this is recurrable which is a bit more powerful, pair it with Urborg which is technically colorless (can go in any deck) and makes all lands swamps and this can repeatedly destroy any land

Not a good include imo. You're playing against humans capable of understand what happens after they tap that land, so they won't unless is absolutely necessary. You end up spending a card slot just for stopping a single non utility land of one player. That is unless you have a way to sacrifice aura for value over and over. If that's the case, go for it.
