I've never tried metallics like that through the airbrush but I don't see why it wouldn't work, definitely worth a shot of it will save you time/make the process easier. A lot of the look of this gold comes from the wash and highlights 😊

My magnet is pulling on the green stuff when I pull the model off a magnet surface. Then I have to keep leveling out the green stuff again. Should I level it out then cover the whole putty spot in glue?

Hmmm, I haven't encountered that myself, but it's certainly possible that GW has adjusted the formula or you got a mislabelled paint pot, I'll have a look at Caledor Sky next time I'm at the shop and see what I can find out.

@TheHobbyGrotto
@TheHobbyGrotto 27 күн бұрын
You can definitely use off white or another variation when painting eyes. I find that on miniatures the pure white helps make them more visable and creates more contrast at such a small scale, but it's all going to come down to the individual painter 😊

Right ok here I go; I need to cut straight lines into these new bases because my models are metal and they really need the support. I've used some Dremel drill bits, but it's not great. Yes, this is for The Old-World rules. Are there any suggestions particularly with cavalry? Any help will be appreciated cheers.
@TheHobbyGrotto
@TheHobbyGrotto 26 күн бұрын
I actually find the old GW cavalry bases to be some of the worst to convert unfortunately, mainly because there is so much plastic underneath. I run Bretonnians for Old World and I just kept most of the knights on their old 25x50 bases and I combine that with an extended movement tray, but if I was going to increase the base size I would probably look at individual base extenders, glue them on, and then increase the basing material out over this but this may not be the best option (it's just probably the easiest when it comes to cav bases) 😁

Ok, so I ended up using a heated up flat head screw driver and melted the slots needed then glued in and filled with milliput. Seems to have worked so far.

Amazing! Im going to follow these steps for my minis, thankyou! This may be a silly question, but have you left room for the actual minis feet though? I mean, won't one foot be on the raised cork so the mini won't be balanced? If not, he'll be stood in the goo, right? There's probably more room on there than i can see tbf... thanks again!
@TheHobbyGrotto
@TheHobbyGrotto 29 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I made this base specially for the video, so it's maybe a little crowded as I wanted to show as much as I could! Generally for rank and file minis I will glue them to the base and add this stuff after so there are no conflicts with the feet. For special cases you can definitely do the base first, but you will need to pin the mini to the base if there is lots of terrain like the one in the video 😊

Great video as always! Can confirm drybrushing is a godsend - also useful if you're looking to do some pre-weathering, as a more inconsistent drybrush is going to create natural variation. I also really liked how the blues turned out... though, for some reason, I find myself thinking of Clear Sky from the STALKER series xD. Also, can confirm that variation in leathers is a small touch that pays off huge dividends. Like you noted: just a little extra visual interest. If people are a bit less sure on their blending, another way to achieve it would be to highlight up with the same colours, then selectively apply washes to different points. Good point on the eyes too. Was working on a model last night and painted up the entire face, only to realize I'd forgotten the eyes. Suffice it to say, even though it was noticeable on the face, I didn't want to risk all that hard work. That said, I did realize that heavily watered down Leviathan Purple contrast can make a nice shadow colour - especially when you put something warmer, like Reikland Flesh Shade, on the middle and higher areas. Can feel a bit exaggerated depending on water levels, but still pretty nifty!
@TheHobbyGrotto
@TheHobbyGrotto Ай бұрын
Thankyou! It's such a simple thing to do with leather bits on models, even if it's just two different browns I think it adds a lot (and often I already have those browns on the wet palette ready to go!). Adding washes is also a great suggestion and just as easy too! I'll have to look into more purple too, it's definitely a versatile colour for shading and glazing. I don't have Leviathan but I do have Magos Purple 😀
@Sturmensky
@Sturmensky Ай бұрын
@@TheHobbyGrotto Ooo Magos is nice! I picked up Leviathan because it's extremely useful for heat warping. Take your silver flamethrower barrel... thing... add Sepia from roughly 1/3rd up the barrel to 2/3rds up the barrel, layer a few times in the center, then apply watered down Leviathan further along so it overlaps part of the Sepia, then do the end with a dark blue wash (I use Drakenhoff). The area where the Sepia and Leviathan overlaps will gain a subtle red tint, so you get the full range of heat warping for relatively little effort.
