Thank you, best I've found so far,.. . One question though : When you took it apart the large white pistons (lower unit) on both sides, they had a large circular groove in them, and I kind of expected there would be some kind of O-ring in those grooves,..... but there was not,....... and also not when you re-inserted them. ......... I thought these pistons were moving back and forth and with their large area was pusing liquid through a smaler diameter hole (the pipes at both ends), and in my mind, consequently, they should have some kind of seals ?,...... unless the white piston heads are self sealing somehow. ........... I just purchased a second hand one, a different brand, but almost exactly the same construction. ....... Thanks for your focus on details / struggles and alternative solutions to special tools, and the focus on what not to do :-) Very good.

Thank you! 🙂 But about your question about those pistons - it's too long ago, I'm afraid, to give you an reasonable answer to that. Those pistons are made from teflom, so they are a kind of seal in itself, because they fit so precisely in the cylinders. I don't remember those circular grooves... Success with your rebuild!

Great video. Thanks for posting. When taking the end cap off the motor (at 15:00) spray it with some wd40 all around the cap. Will help release it. Also, the bolt used for the lug should be brass. Stainless is a terrible conductor of electricity and not to be used in that application. The lug bolt you installed needed to be connected on the inside of the motor to the brush sets. I did n't see that done but assume you got it soldered in?

Ik heb precies dezelfde watermaker, ik loop tijdens de installatie alleen tegen 1 probleem aan.. Hoeveel bar moet de waterpomp zijn? Alvast superbedankt!
@DoubleUThings
@DoubleUThings Ай бұрын
Hoi, Laurent! Groetz! Wim

Anyone know where to find (cheaper non OEM) parts to replace in Yanmar Injection pumps? They are Bosch style injection pumps. Parts will eventually wear out and need replacing. I am specifically looking for a plunger and barrel assembly 104271-51100.YANMAR OEM Is around USD$160.

I am sorry to tell you, but Victron is simply the best brand for this on planet earth 🙂 Yes, it is expensive, but you get what you pay for. We have used it for 4 years, fulltime living on our boat, and it never had let us down. Next project (we sold the boat) will have only Victron again. Except the LiFePO4 batteries, because there are cheaper brands with exactly the same Chinese cells in it.

Fill hex bolts with pure lanolin after assembly. This prevents growth inside the hex head. Will not dissolve in water. But will easily squish out with hex wrench for removal, even years later.

Hi, great job that I also did. It is important to point out that it is not necessary to grease but just to oil the O-rings and the ring because they are permanently in SAE 80W90. Can you be so kind as to give me the complete part number of your Volvo Penta propeller, thank you!
@DoubleUThings
@DoubleUThings 4 ай бұрын
Thanx! 🙂Yeah, the oil is okay too. It's less messy when you do it with a little grease, though. By the way, the Yanmar factory advizes to use 15W30 or 15W40 instead of 80W90 when the saildrive is connected to the 1GM10 engine. Strange, huh? And I'm sorry, but I don't know that part number... Thank you so much, this video is incredibly helpful and thorough. I’m a new boat owner and will be tackling some of these tasks next week. I know I need to replace my rubber flap, the first(and probably both)sets of anodes, remove/clean the prop and check/change the gear oil. The engine/boat is a 2007 with 300 hours so I’m hoping I don’t have to get deep into the weeds replacing the seals and gaskets. That’s a bit beyond my (growing)skillset.

Nice one. Another thing is that after you select the cog on the mppt controller then click on the 3dots on the top again and change the name of your controller to something making sense. I use my boat name them voltage/ amperage which helps when you have different voltage or amp controllers. Don’t rely on that Daly to give you correct SOC they are horrible at counting small amp charges and discharges. Use a nice Victron smart shunt to give you real readings.

Sdid you ever get that water maker working? I have the smae issues with my spectra
@DoubleUThings
@DoubleUThings 6 ай бұрын
I never did a video on that, right? 🤔 But yes. We bought a new membrane (expensive stuff!) and also added a second feed pump, and have used it for the last two years. It gives a little less fresh water than spec, because of little grooves in the cilinders, but still 38l/hr, which is more than enough for everything (showering, dishes, cooking, drinking, washing machine). It is one of the best additions to our boat! Love it! After our LiFePO4 batteries are full (which is often before noon), we run the watermaker purely on the solar panels. But what are your issues?
@Robdawg_86
@Robdawg_86 6 ай бұрын
@@DoubleUThings well I have the spectra vt150, I took it apart for maintenance and cleaning after storing it for 2 years. When I reassembled it I wasn't making any water. My feed pressure gauge had always been faulty so i then replaced the feed gauge to see I was only making 20psi feed pressure. I then took everything apart again but all the seals were in place and everything looked in good condition. So second time testing, I blocked the brine discharge which built up enough pressure to enough to move the piston in the top block, which then allowed me to purge the rest of the air out and develop good feed pressure. So now I am able to make 22l per hour. Finicky machines these things but undoubtedly a good product

Sunny regards back! 🙂 Haha, the old discussion about what's best. I don't think it makes a difference. There are people who say that if you turn it forward, the driving wind rams some extra air into the engine, a kind of week turbo, zo to say, but 4x4's drive way to slow to make in difference regarding that. The most important thing is that you don't get water into the snorkle, so in that perspective backwards is robably the best.
