Hi Jay - Would you mind a question on Luckey Tor. When you headed off from Dartmeet car park and crossed the road to follow the River Dart. Was it a good path along the river to Luckey Tor or did you have to deviate across rocks and through trees to get there? Thanks Pete
@WanderingJay

hiya...its an "ok" path, rocks mainly, especially a section nr the beginning, after than its a fairy ok muddy path to the tor

That was an epic effort Jay, despite bailing the second day. For those who haven't had the pleasure of hiking on dartmoor it's a punishing cocktail of tussock, blanket bog, marshes, rivers and loose ankle twisting rocks. Most mortals are pleased to cover 10miles, let alone 26.

cheers, I tried again last weekend, lol, got 41 miles in b4 feet gave out, I switched to a new insole that is way more comfy, so giving it another go tomorrow, was going to try today, but wanted to see what these thunderstorms were doing..hope you and family ok, gotta meet up soon! ATB WJ

Hi there, shame you had, pitch, tent and feet problems,. Completing it in two days would be impressive. I did think about doing the Perambulation again but anti-clockwise. But the thought of the climb from Sandy Ford to Steng-a-Tor!! atb Simon
@WanderingJay
@WanderingJay Жыл бұрын
yer, its possible i think to do in 2 days but it all has to align right, I tried again this weekend, got 40 miles in b4 feet gave way, need to sort a better insole/sock combo, and poss cooler weather. I dont mind the kitty tor climb, short and sharp, its eastern white barrow that gets me, bloody place,lol Doing it anti clockwise is harder i reckon as well, it adds a 1000ft of elevation , next time i try i'll do it the right way.
@WinchcombeWanderer

@@WanderingJay that's so so close. Clockwise and a cooler day and I'm sure you'll complete it in 2 days. I sorted my heal blister problem out with Injinji Liner Socks and thinner Merino socks (100 miles with no blisters, 🙂). Have you tried this combo? Good luck for your next attempt.

Hiya Jay, yikes, that was quite a stomp! I could feel blisters on my feet just watching lol! Great Mis seems to be the go to Tor now for a camp out given its relative proximity to the road/car parking if you follow the track up. I sometimes find when I'm out on long day hikes, I often find myself more pre-occupied ensuring I'm covering the distance, which sacrifices the time actually enjoying the scenery and landscape you're in. Mind you that's the beauty of some of the Dartmoor challenges! I bet you're itching to get back on your bike and hit those Devon hills lol! Anyway, always great to see your adventures on Dartmoor. Cheers, Pete

lol, yer, tho it turned out to be an easy fix for the tent, 2 mins on the sewing machine. funnily , was half expecting to see you guys up there, thinking youd give the peram a go that weekend as it was bank holiday, but oh well, gonna try it again this weekend, starting from Belstone, and going clockwise, turns out its less elevation, and puts me in the erme vally/red lake area, so more pitches around...cheers for watching..ATB WJ

cheers guys, I have been out, just got uninspired with the filming side, kept filming the same places, hence the bike. yer, the bags are the alpkit deluge bags, the saddle bag is the 20lt one, works v well, i have to watch the seat bag as my bike has 29inch wheels so not a lot of clearence, but it never actually rubbed so prob just need to pack it different.I like the way they make you consider every piece of kit you take, makes for v good ultralight weight disipline, I used the montane trailblazer 18 lt running backpack as well for stuff i needed whilst on the bike, like wearing a vest , u barely notice it. Nice to see you out and about again Jay. I love the view from Shelstone Tor, one of, if not the best views up the valley. A trip you may enjoy is the Ilfracombe to Plymouth on the cycleway, I did it in 2019 I'd say about 80% of it is on the old rail lines and not too many steep hills. I also just cable tied my camera mount to the bike being too cheap to buy anything, worked fine. I did pay for not having decent padding on my arse though, so invest in that.
