3 Doors Down. Played at Trumps inauguration in 2017!!! At a time when almost nobody from the entertainment industry would support Trump. Tip of my hat to you.

Years ago, as a young, stupid squid, I hated Marines. Navy and Marines fought constantly. I thought, "Hey, they hate me, so..." Then, in 1986, my Battle Group pulled into Livorgno, Italy. (There's a big U.N. base and a N.S.A. there, or there was anyway) Me and my shipmates were in an off-base bar and got into it with some Army guys. (Doesn't matter why, just stupid young-man stuff) We were outnumbered about 5 to 11, so we were getting the worst of it, for sure. There was a kind of mezzanine in this bar, a 2nd floor with a rail that overlooked the main floor, and all of a sudden we heard the pounding of about a half dozen large men bounding down the wooden steps. It was a group of gung-ho marines stationed in Livorgno who had seen what was going on and knew we were sailors. (Back in the day, we had to wear our dress blues on any 1st day ashore on liberty) They just went ape-shit on these drunk army guys and soon Army beat a hasty "tactical retreat." Now, it's just us squids and grunts, all ponying up money to the barkeep for all the broken stuff so he wouldn't sic the police or SPs on us. Grateful, but confused, I asked one of those grunts why they bothered to step-in like they did. He was an E6, Staff Sergeant, I layer found out, (kinda "senior" to be involved in a bar fight; normally you wouldn't see any senior enlisted mixing it up like that) Anyway, he looked me square in the eye and said, "NOBODY fucks with the Navy except Marines." We wound up drinking with these guys all night, albeit at a DIFFERENT bar. I came to understand that night that Marines are just built different. Capable of great violence, yes. (Thank God) But always guided by a moral code. Even fighting with - and occasionally beating the crap out of - squids: yes, THEY can do it, but God help anyone else who tries. I never saw the Marines the same way again. Now, I did eventually "grow up" and come to realize that ALL of my brothers and sisters, in ALL branches of US Armed Forces have earned, and deserve, respect. But the Navy and the Marine Corps share something a bit "more" I think. I won't go so far as to call it "affection," more like an unspoken kinship. Do sailors still consider Marines to be our bastard, red-headed stepchildren? You bet! Do Marines still feel that sailors are useless, sexually "ambiguous," and generally a waste of perfectly good oxygen. Of course. But, though I can't speak for any other squid or grunt, I know that I have held Marines in the highest regard since then, and have always defended them and spoken highly of them. (Only when they're not around, of course) So highly, in fact, that my son, who grew up hearing my tales, enlisted in the U.S.M.C straight out of school and served honorably in 1 tour in Iraq, and 2 tours of Afghanistan. God bless our glorious Marines, bastards though they may be! ⚓️🇺🇲

We still have many Hero’s in our midst. They are the quiet ones who normally sit alone and don’t want attention. They know who they are and in a full room you can recognize them in an instant. Go Navy. Fly Navy!
