In real life and historically speaking? Magic is mostly just asking/calling on gods or other spiritual beings to do things for you, in other words basically prayer.

Aleister Crowley bought that home in Loch Ness he went out there and he got in over his head and used the excuse of needing to sort Affairs out with the group that he belonged to so he left an open portal then years later the singer from Led Zeppelin bought it and sold it four months later saying that the place had bad vibes then the place burned down a few times if I had to guess somebody probably did something similar at this is Skinwalker Ranch it seems that people are dangerously exceeding their capabilities and opening up a can of worms that obviously can't be closed

I've got a theory. In the world of physics, you have astrophysics on one side, governed by general relativity. On the other is particle physics, governed by quantum mechanics. One describes the reality we live in, the cosmos, and the other describes the behavior of the tiny things that the reality we live in is made up of. The problem is that the two follow different rules, that so far as we've found are incompatible, they can't mesh. Unification of the two is the holy grail of the physics community, and so far it's come up empty. I believe that at some point in our distant past, physical science and metaphysical science were two sides of the same discipline; as above, so below. Duality. Unfortunately, Christianity ended that with extreme prejudice, making even the whisper of either one punishable by death, giving us the Dark Ages. The Enlightenment years brought physical science back, and had to be grudgingly accepted by the church, but they weren't about to let occult knowledge back into the light. Eventually anything occult became synonymous with "magic" and it's been beaten into our heads since our first day of school that magic "isn't real". So today's physical science is fractured and incomplete. I think we've come as far as we're going to in describing the reality we're a part of, and it's killing us. The only way to zero-point energy and from there release from the grip of the fossil fuel industry is through the unification of the relativistic world with the quantum world, and it's my belief that the only way to achieve that is through the unification of physics and metaphysics. Food for thought.

The Gospel of Aradia was written in 1899 by Leland. Also, before the 1960's certain Romanies practised a Goddess/God religion. Goddess worship has been around alot longer than the 1960's. But it was not the neo Pagan religion it is now. It was the Old Religeon or Craft. And Goddess and God were central in equal balance.

Its interesting that a house divided can't stand and a clarion call to traditional pillars of enlightenment or empowerment through the gospel of 'legions ' still stands yesterday and today as is often sung ' It was good for the ( He brew) children so its good enough for me"

It is so true that traditional religion prayers to the saints is like paganism and there is so much magic done in religion and they refuse to recognize it and they call it some it something else. It is so refreshing to listen to your lecture. You have a have excellent knowledge and I wish I had known about your class when I was young.

Why were women considered to be witches? Because women use gossip, which is brainwashing, and they use mind manipulation, psychological bullying, blaming, shaming, guilt tripping, and destroying the character of others. It's all mind control.

I joined Wicca for, well, the magick. On one hand, I can't imagine joining a religion for community, but, on the other hand, I did once join a synagogue for exactly that (though I was, technically, already Jewish).

This is what happens when I go to an Anthropologist instead of a Historian on this kind of issue. Feeling, bias, and equivocation instead of just information in context handled critically. A scholarly academic saying they approach the given subject a certain way because they "Want the world to be an enchanted place" and that they are completely biased, as well as refusing to take a position on what are quite basic truth claims is all completely innapropriate from someone speaking from the perspective of scholarship. Acknowledging biases is supposed to be done so that we can restrain and reduce their impact on our work, not as justification for the way we approach the work. He rejects older interpretive models for being racist and thus irrational, yet he seems to irrationally and biggotedly subsume all religion under magic. Using the magical thinking of Catholic ritual isn't a great tactic for getting people to accept magic as a common part of our human experience when you realize that the majority of people aren't Catholic. Atheists and non-liturgical Christians already dismiss and criticize Catholicism for exactly their magical nature. You say, "Well, even the Catholic mass is a magic ritual," and a Baptist like me says, "Yes. What's your point." Then he goes on to basically imply all religious expression is magical. Do you really think that when Tim Tebow puts bible verses on his face before a game, he's thereby *expecting* God to intercede actively and supernaturally in the practical outome of the game? Like wearing a magic amulet makes a person immune to bullets? As someone who grew up praying before sports events, let me explain. The prayer is typically not, "God, help us win this game." That's incredibly egotistical and immature, as all prayers are mediated by God's will. Only what He wills, happens. It's generally, "God, help keep everyone safe, help us act in a way that honors you, and let us be blessed by the experience." The idea of being a witness for one's beliefs in the eyes of others is important in the Christian tradition. That's what's happening with Tebow. A scholar of the subject should be able to tell the difference between that kind of religious expression and the kind of thinking behind amulets and incantations. But growing up as a self-confessed "magical" Catholic, maybe he really thinks that's the way all Christianity (and all religion) works.

I agree .I didn`t find it scholarly just a series of ideas to fit his narrative .I say this as a Catholic and as someone who has also met Gerald Garner . A kind and self effacing man who`d probably be horrified at some of these claims made on his behalf .

Right so those sportsmen are just doing religious virtue signalling like "look, I'm the kind of Christian you all are, we are in the same tribe". Now that makes a lot more sense, thank you 🙏

Leave out the gender nonsense, and the LGBTQ, and the racism. Just teach about the truth of Witchcraft, and Salem trials, the Court of Oyer and Terminer. Stop spinning everything into racism and political opinions.

Witchcraft crimes also included making people sick to sell a cure, like pharmaceutical companies, hence pharmekia. Poisoning water wells with belladonna or dead animals.

If you read history, the law courts were involved with siezing estates and property from witchcraft, yet women couldn't own property. Because Hollywood has misdirected people to think witchcraft is old ladies and brooms. It actually meant which form of law is your craft. Law of the dead, probate, maritime admiralty law, ecclesiastical law, merchant law. Hence the Office of Witchfinder General. That's the real truth.

The biggest act of magic is when legislators, politicians, and lawyers make symbols on parchment, read these symbols aloud in a temple, three times, and bind entire countries to perform or obey. Spelling. This is done by men most never meet in a buildings most have never been to, in cities, states, provinces most never go to.
