dont judge starship troopers 2 before seeing the dvd commentary(one day i had no internet and all i had was the dvd, already seen the movie so commentary it was, lets just say it sticked to me, amazing people involved), they actually did wonders with what they had access to, for the budget and actors it's just good. And phil tippets did some insane practicals, as usual. But you seem to prefer the 3rd movie cause of the gimmicks, just lol.

I love this movie maybe the most in the series. It’s the most dark and scary by far. And the most violent. It fucks up more people in the worst way more than another alien movie. And everyone subconsciously thinks about these alien kill scenes more than any other alien movie. They just don’t know it. Epic ending too with Ripley making the ultimate sacrifice. I loved how dark it was.

This movie somehow feels like a bad video game adaptation film, despite not being based on any existing IP (that I know of anyway). Even the title sounds like it should be a video game.

Amen to all of this. Seeing it in the theater, renting it on VHS tape, at some point buying a copy, however many viewings I gave it hoping the next time it would all click and it just never did, I was also in that camp of disappointment and feeling perpetually let down by ALIEN3 in its Theatrical Cut. The surreal and disorganized mess of a production process with replacing key personnel, repeated rewrites that never pleased everybody and continued on into principle photography, and a young & bright director so fed-up with endless studio meddling and generally miserable experience throughout that he disowned the film afterward never to re-embrace it - well none of that aided in seeing ALIEN3 under a more positive light. But when they released the version of the film as it was intended, or the closest to Fincher’s original vision as we’re ever to see (before clumsy studio edits and scene cuts chopped the legs out from under it), the Assembly Cut was a very different experience. It’s really unfortunate more than 30 years later there still seems to be much more derisive comments from fans than reappraisal (to any degree) about ALIEN3. Each subsequent viewing just further strengthened that feeling, that this cut was how we were meant to experience the story. And in my full acceptance of how dark, bleak and practically devoid of hope the story was, it became more clear how much worked about the film, it’s many strengths now allowed to really shine within this longer, superior version that is the Assembly Cut. Personally, I’m most grateful for the omission of a live dog in favor of a dead ox. I don’t ever need to see that poor thing suffer ever again.

At least bum fights you could choose to say no to the $5. I watch a lot of audit the audit, lack luster and the civil rights lawyer... The police frequently beat people to death over potentially unlawful orders. I think bumb fights definitely went too far but im definitely worried about propagating the belief that responsibility for your actions won't further your position.

I'm surprised no one's thought to do a prequel set during the Crusades. Also, I saw Exorcist 2 for the first time last year, and I honestly didn't think it was that bad, especially compared to these two. It's wasn't *good* but I liked some of the technical aspects, and it was totally worth seeing James Earl Jones (RIP) dressed up like a giant locust.

I dont understand the notion that Straw dogs is a fascist movie. I can in some way trace the argument but it is to simplify. Straw dogs is a great movie and the better as it exposes humans in a specific situation with all their layers. I think that Susan Georges character comes out rather strong in the end as a very honest person when all the personae of the men have failed the in one or another way. It has always been the rock in my shoe, itching, never settled, always bringing back thoughts. But I guess that is what Peckinpah did; you were never really safe with the characters and their relation to civilization. The violence is always there and not as something cathartic thrown in for the tension. It is always ugly and naked and exposing. Not even in the smart Getaway, is there a relief. Straw dogs just dont want to show us the mirror we want to see.

Fun fact, an exorcism that Father Merrin performed was mentioned in the first one, and they tried to film that event three times. These two movies and Exorcist II: the Heretic has flashbacks to this exorcism. Just can't get it right.

Love the first four Sigourney ones, can watch over & over - she elevates the material, even on critically derided ones. The AvPs are middle teir for me as a guilty pleasure. Absolutely loathe the awful trifecta of BS with black goo nonsense and engineer retcon of Prometheous, Covenant and the massively overrated memberberry soup that is Romulus.

I am of the firm opinion the Assembly Cut of this film IS brilliant. I saw the theatrical version 1st run,and loved that- but when I read the novelization right after,I knew there had been something off by how different the two were. I was grateful the 'Assembly Cut' was able to bring focus to what was changed. It elevated the film mightily, pacing be damned. The film is a Gothic masterwork.

Looking at the slightly swinging, upside-down crucifix in _Exorcist: the Beginning_ I can't help but think of Wajda's _Ashes and Diamonds._ Given that it's the most famous imagery from one of the most highly thought-of works of Polish cinema, they probably should have avoided retreading that ground.
