Thanks for posting. I remember Mike from back in late 80's when I was a pinball collector. He had a party at his house. Me and my friend came out of Pittsburgh to visit. Great guy . He had multiple new pinball machines set up for us to play.

Noob here, when you replace a playfield, does that also mean disconnecting and removing all the electronics underneath the table?

Hi, somewhat a response 3 years later after this vid has been posted, but here is my question: I have problems with my Williams Fire that it sometimes reset, has memmory protect failure, and sometimes it does not boot. Voltages are under load: +4.85v -14.3v + 9.8v Unloaded: +4.85 -14.3 + 10.5v Bridge, C10, C8, Q5 has been replaced but still has the same problem. Why does the +12v drop down to lower than +10v I hope for a reply, thank you!
@MarcoPinball5 ай бұрын
Your 12V comes unregulated off the transformer, and that's low, and looks like it's dragging down your 5V causing resets. Trace wires and voltages back to the transformer and see if you're getting 12V off of there. Connectors go bad over time and can lead to voltage drop. Replacing connector pins is the proper fix, sometimes reseating will fix it temporarily. Very rarely, a partial short can develop in the transformer. Check your wall voltage, if it's too low (<110V) these problems would also result.

Man i wish i wasn't so afraid to mess things up on a pinball machine. The left pop bumper barely works because the switch is really messed up. i bought a new switch. but i'm too chicken to try and desolder the wires and try soldering on the new switch on my Data East JP machine.

You'll probably never see this but most pool tables are 3 piece slate. So they can be moved as each piece of slate can be moved individually, They are very heavy so definitely need 2 to 3 people to move a table.

Thanks @davidh6713, I couldn't agree more. And I'm comfortable saying that, because it was my co-presenter, Mark, that came up with that and I loved the concept as it relates to EM start-up immediately.

The use of the term feedback is an excellent tool to help understanding of how machines work.

When purchasing a used game, if you see it in person, be conscious of cigarette smoke smell or if it’s in a room that smells like cigarettes. This can cause wood cracking and drying/swelling that may result in fitment issues throughout the game, especially lifting/lowering the playfield. Also getting rid of the smell can take up to year even when using multiple order removal techniques.

Good advise for beginners,although I would recommend staying away from “Rottendog” brand products as they aren’t as well built as the original ones and their support is pretty much nonexistent.

Thanks for the video. When George says “the early LEs” are missing the metal plate for the DB5, is it possible to know which ones? Such as from #150 and onward the plate was added at stern etc. Do those early LE owners just have to contact stern to get a plate and install it themselves? Thanks

Williams Controlled Gate... I just yesterday brought a Bride o Pinbot home and testing shows that the Controlled Gate solenoid doesn't fire. I was like what the hell is a controlled gate? We also noticed, when playing a thousand games on our first day, that the ball never seemed to go into the Pinbot play field. So we looked in the book and put 2 and 2 together. Found and traced the solenoid control wire up to the power card and saw that the transistor was missing for that particular solenoid LOL. That explains that one. Also row 8 of the switch matrix is in-op due to CPU board corrosion directly below the previously replaced batteries so we'll need to but a Rottendog replacement from you probably. So that's how I got here! Great explanation of the head assembly BTW. I'm sitting there and suddenly "My head" started spinning around and around then just stopped crooked and never moved again. I was like UH OH. So I looked and found your video above. Just started watching and my buddy called. I kick back, look over, and notice one of the wires broke off the motor lol. WOO HOO! Soldered it back and I'm back in business. But I found you so that the best part! I love Pinball!

I bought my 1976 "Target Alpha" in 1978. It worked so good over the years, that's the main reason I was never forced to learn how to repair it. Fast forward to moving from Michigan to southern New Mexico in 2008. Upon reassembly, it semi-functioned..and it ended up sitting for 15 years. Now I sure would like to get it going again. Since there is absolutely no one here where I live that works on these, I'm going to have to give it a shot myself. A lot of the repair video's say the first thing to do is clean the contacts, and the all the Jones plugs, as that's where 90% of the trouble comes from. The score motor runs continuously, the 5 lower drop targets don't reset, the reels are very sluggish, and don't want to reset back to zero. I can press the DX relay, the score motor stops, the ball kicks out, but the scoring is erratic...and the 5 lower drop targets stay down. This is how it semi-functions. So now I'm just waiting for the stuff I ordered to arrive.

being able to craddle the ball with the secondary flipper is knarly as hell. Have any other machines allowed for that?
