Donal was the catalyst for so much that has been good about our music and culture for nigh on 60 years.

@dentipres - a master of trad giving detailed breakdowns of the music and it’s progression, and the individuals involved- I’d say that’s a masterclass.

I’m so glad this was filmed. Donal is a National Treasure, and it’s a joy seeing him interviewed by someone who knows him so well. Thanks to Archie McAllister for the discovery.

Not really a masterclass. It's great but bit of a misnomer.

I learned a lot from this. I can't quite get my head around how great these two men play together. I'm also quite inspired by the journey of music they have taken, far less direct and much more exploratory than I ever expected.

G'day from Australia! Am so grateful for this. When i first started on a journey to reclaim my family musical heritage, I discovered the sound of Donal and his bouzouki's and immediately took up the instrument and been obsessed ever since with both the instrument and his playing style and arrangements. There is very limited exposure to Irish music or instruction in an instrument like the bouzouki here in Australia, so this sharing of stories and tunes is so very much appreciated.

I didn't expect to get a reference to science fiction in a traditional musician interview but as someone who loves folk and traditional music as well as science fiction... Cool (The Philip K. Dick - Total Recall - We Can Remember It For You Wholesale bit).

I like the gritty nature of Donal's singing in Irish - Bhean Phaidin was always one of my favorite Planxty tracks.
